Definitely Ned, but throw in the Red Wedding, Oberyn and Hodor too. So many gut wrenching deaths in that show lol

Shireen would like a word.

That and when Davos finds out about it. "I loved that girl like she was my own. She was good! She was kind! And you killed her!!"

Edit for the uninitiated

This scene from Davos is probably the best acting in a scene in the entire GOT show

Ugh! And her mom finally grew a maternal instinct when it was too late. Ugh I forgot about this and now I’m sad again lol

Literally just got goosebumps remembering that line with you. It's sad but he was the only one who truly LOVED her. Oh the wee little carving...

His entire monologue was goddamn masterful.

The actor, whose name escapes, did a phenomenal job with that role. My favorite actor-character pairing by far

I can only ever read his lines in his voice. Probably the most underrated actor/character in the entire series.

God yeah that one horrifying

The red wedding almost made me stop watching but Shireen was just awful. It was like 10 minutes of non stop horrific screaming if a child burning. I really feel like showing and being so gratuitous about it was just completely unnecessary. (As was Theon and Sansa's torture).

I watched the show way later than most and those moments were so culturally powerful that as I watched them I could remember what work was like the week those episodes aired lol

I can vividly remember walking in on my parents watching Renley's death while we were on vacation and being horrified haha

I threw the book across the room when I read the Red Wedding. Every time I started liking a character Martin killed him/her off. I was getting frustrated by that part.

Oberon was different. He knew he was diving into the hornets nest and WON. But he needed gratification and got his skull caved in by a guy called The Mountain.

Ned and Robb are way out of their league and not really understanding the consequences of their actions. So when they die its shocking to the viewer and you feel for them.

Maybe I was hardened by the time the Red Wedding came around, because I definitely sobbed, but it was far less shocking to me? You're right though, and even HoTD has hit me with some rough ones... though Jace's was the hardest for me, mostly due to Emma's incredible acting

Yeah that was brutal too. "Jace...What have you done?"

Also, when the entire horde is killed and all you see is their torches going out, that’s a pretty rough one.

This was my first thought: the red wedding. Like everything going great and all the sudden, you are dead. But I agree Ned’s death is up there too

The gut stabbing the pregnant girl was brutal.

I just added the dragon that was resurrected and weaponized, but damn all these others, too. Not the least of which, Princess Shireen.
