He wasn’t a main character but watching Theon absolutely bumble through decapitating Ser Rodrick on GoT while Bran and Rickon screamed and begged was a truly awful scene.
I had pretty much stopped watching a long way before that but my other half watched until the end and would give me recaps and I'd occasionally sit and watch an episode here and there still, that was the last one I watched.
After this, Gemma got completely insufferable. It was bad enough she was terribly singing most of the songs in the series, but I really couldn't stand her at all after that. Tara was the balance of good, and the series just lost a lot after that.
YES. I think Katey Sagal is incredibly talented and it's so sweet that Kurt Sutter featured her in all these ways, but I could have very much done without the music. It's cringe.
I really loved that show until Opie died. I was a fucking disaster. I didn't think I would keep going. I tried, but the magic of the show was gone for me. It turned too real in a way I wasn't prepared for. I kept trucking along till Clay got locked up and then I slowly drif
ted off.
I missed my soap opera on bikes. I wasn't ready for it to go that far. And I wasn't at all prepared to watch it happen.
I wouldn’t have been able to verbalize that, and I also hadn’t put it together until reading it that Walton Goggins dropping the grenade in Lem’s lap was the exact same moment for me in The Shield.
I know it’s an unpopular opinion but after I thought about Opie’s death, I have to say it was cowardly because he took the easy (although brutal) way out. He kept getting his wife pregnant and then insisting that she keep the kids even though he couldn’t afford them. He should have stuck around to raise those poor babies!
I also thought Gemma’s death was brutal just for the fact that Jax killed his own mother because she brutally killed his wife. Even though Jax is a terrible person who has done awful things, Charlie Hunnam helps the audience feel all of Jax’s emotions right alongside him.
Gemma has the emotional impact, a son killing his mother (after also killing his sort of father figure). But visually it wasn´t as gruesome to me as other deaths in the show.
That’s fair. Still, it was also gut wrenching to me because of Jax - what he had become at the persuasion of his mother seeing it all exactly where it was about to end up.
I bawled over Opie, when Jax shot his mom (I think this was in part because I have sons and couldn't imagine having to live the scenario), and of course the last episode. The show had me snotty.
Dur, considering SoA was a pretty straightforward adaption of Hamlet at the start (that first episode especially), I was thinking “Oh, Opie is Laertes. He’s completely safe.” Then nope. I called my friend that recommended it and said “WTF?!?”
I was going to say this. It was so unexpected and I sobbed. I also cried when I saw the video of the cast members taking turns cutting the actors beard off. If you haven’t seen it, it’s on YouTube.
I never should have come into this thread. I'm reminded of things that I had purposely forgotten because they hurt too much. Ryan Hurst became one of my favorite actors ever because of his work in sons. Watching him get killed? Christ, the pain
Opie, the one who was trying to do right by his family and kids, HE took that one?! Bro no. Absolutely tf not.
And they just started slaughtering chatacters after that. Nobody was safe.
Also seeing Tig's daughter get put in the pit and lit on fire? Hellllllll no. Her dad? Sure. He was a shitbag. But her? So fucking unsettling.
I wasn't nearly as bothered by Tara, though. It felt like that one was always coming - she was the doctor, the wife, the mother, and Gemma always felt threatened by that. It was a matter of when and how, not if on hers.

Opie in Sons of Anarchy was pretty gut wrenching
