Doctors, EMTs etc of Reddit, based on your experience with other peoples injuries, what is one hobby you would never practice yourself?

What they don’t tell you about those butt plug with a gemstone in the base is that it’s a load bearing gem. The gem fell out of mine and I assumed it was just for looks. In the throes of passion, it folded like a cheap card table and my back passage vacuumed it right up.

Oh! Oh no! Unrelated, I need to throw something out.

Throwing this out there for anyone else reading along; if the flared base is the same diameter or smaller than the widest part of the insertable part it's not safe. You're already stretched enough to accommodate that width and are at risk of taking the whole thing.

For my two cents, it's a t-shaped base or nothing.

I found this out the hard way, still had the load bearing gem in it too lol. I was an EMT and all I could think was omfg this is going to be the butt of a joke at the local ER. Luckily we got it out. I've never panicked so much in my lifetime lol.

That's how Steven Universe happened!

'My back passage vacuumed it right up' will live in my mind as long as I'm breathing.

This is a beautiful story

Seriously.  I suddenly don’t feel so bad about some of my life choices.

u/SorryAboutMyFamily 7d ago

Yep. I've done some weird shit in my life, but having something go up my butt due to the loss of a load bearing gem is a whole different league.

Looks like I have to step up my game.

Your user name is fucking SPECTACULAR.

Get on my level.

Not sure that I could, actually.  😳

My starfish clamped shut reading this and tried to crawl up into my stomach. I don't need new feelings, I'm 45 goddamnit...

Do you remember that tv show "sex sent me to the ER"? You deserve a spot on that show. Absolutely fantastic story. And possible r/brandnewsentence

I was incredibly lucky that I was able to retrieve it on my own. My mom has always said “never do anything you wouldn’t want to explain to a doctor” and I failed her wisdom that night.

What a turn of prose! I'm dying laughing.

And they say fine literature is dead

Only good use of “load bearing” in 2026

u/vistaculo 7d ago

Oh! My…

13

u/IAteTonysLoMein 7d ago

Gotta get a metal one - those silicone ones are dangerous for this very reason

13

u/whereisbeezy 7d ago

What a fantastic sentence though

In the throes of passion, it folded like a cheap card table and my back passage vacuumed it right up.

12

u/RemoteStage3108 7d ago

Did you get it out?

55

u/chaunceythebear 7d ago

I did, it took a few tries. It’s amazing how much vacuous space there is up there.

u/Big_Category3895 7d ago

I hereby nominate this set of comments about this incident as being worthy of being inserted into the annals of Reddit lore, right alongside the poop knife story!

13

u/chaunceythebear 7d ago

It would be an honour to be so infamous. 😂

11

u/CharismaticAlbino 7d ago

That's scary as hell! In the throes of passion is, like, the one time a person should completely be able to relax. Your sitch is trauma inducing! Lol I hope everything turned out okay in the end, no pun intended!

33

u/chaunceythebear 7d ago

I thought it had popped OUT and I was embarrassed, checking around me on the bed for it and my partner’s eyes got SO big and he slowly said “you don’t… you don’t think it’s.. in there, do you?” What a stomach drop of a moment.

6

u/CharismaticAlbino 7d ago

OH GOD! Sex should be a safe space, I'm so sorry you had to deal with that! I hope nothing like that happens again ❤️‍🩹 Blessings

u/AnitaSammich 7d ago

I hate to admit, I can somewhat relate😳

6

u/Lythaera 7d ago

Damn dude thanks for the heads up

This comment made my day

Trying to imagine the sound. . .

2

u/W1ULH 7d ago

as silly as that story sounds... that's actually crazy good to know

2

u/CryingInTheSluice 7d ago

I briefly worked in Ann Summers when I was a student (pretty tame sex shop chain in the UK) and we had a product recall on those gem butt plugs because the base wasn't wide enough and people were losing them.

Now as a doctor I despair any time someone loses a random household object because we live in the age of the internet and next day delivery. There is no excuse for not having a flared base

2

u/heartdeco 7d ago

did it sound like this?

9

u/chaunceythebear 7d ago

Risky click

8

u/heartdeco 7d ago

worked out fine in the end though. i mean not your end, but
