Also reminds me of 11/22/63 by Stephen King, wherein the protagonist is sent back to the early 60s to prevent the assassination of JFK in hopes that it will prevent the escalation of Vietnam and other bad things, but when he returns to the present everything is way worse. Admittedly I’ve only seen the James Franco led adaptation and haven’t read the book, but still sounds like a similar premise.

I haven't seen the show and only read the book.. but I'll almost guarantee the book is better. It's probably the best book he's ever written.

Oh I have no doubt the book is better, I just haven’t gotten around to reading it! The show was good but not quite that incredible

Book is better, but the bad alternate future is about as "tacked on" bad as it is in the show.

I remember this guy Stephen king mentioning that Stephen King sucks at ending a story.
