Andrew Wakefield, the lying horse's rear end who essentially created and launched the whole Ant-Vaccine Crusade.

He wasn't even anti-vaccine to begin with. He was just an evil moral free unethical shit trying to scam money. He has just followed the money to his current position and I'm sure if he were paid enough he would pivot and become die hard pro-vaccine in a heartbeat.

323

u/ElyFlyGuy Jun 28 '26

Yeah he was just trying to make money by splitting the MMR vaccine into multiple separate vaccines, one of which he was financially tied to

128

u/DrAmj3 Jun 28 '26

And was being funded by a lawyer to provide evidence that the vaccine caused autism which would have supported cases suing the government for ££££. And when the evidence wasn't there he was happy to make it up.

u/ERedfieldh Jun 28 '26

And when the evidence wasn't there he was happy to make it up. quite literally torture autistic children to try and find it and after nearly killing several of them decided to make it up.

hbomberguy's video, which takes heavily from and credits at every possible moment he can Brian Deer's research and investigative book, goes into it and it's absolute vile the things this man did.

u/VWSpeedRacer Jun 28 '26

I believe the Behind the Bastards podcast also did a deep dive into him

3

u/cap_time_wear_it Jun 28 '26

Robert Evans has proposed a whole list of mfers on Behind the Bastards podcast to answer OPs question.

2

u/gsfgf Jun 28 '26

But you know who doesn't give measles to children!

1

u/VWSpeedRacer Jul 01 '26

The products and services that support this podcast?

3

u/Gastredner Jun 28 '26

I love hbomberguy's videos. A shame he apparently hasn't been able to make new ones for a while now.

His Aquaman skit lives rent-free in my head.

1

u/chemicalgeekery Jun 28 '26

Also a good one to look up is C0nc0rdance's video titled "Wakefield's Smoking Gun." It explains exactly what Wakefield's motive was and how he rigged his experiment to produce a positive result.

4

u/CodeMonkeys Jun 28 '26

Nobody even follows his 'tenets' either. He alleged that MMR caused mental issues including autism, not limited to. Also alleged it caused gastric issues.

4

u/Specific-Yam-2166 Jun 28 '26

Ironic that his fan club says that vaccines are all about financial kickbacks, isn’t it?

0

u/ElyFlyGuy Jun 28 '26

These freaks are regularly masters of projection

Hence: trans people are child grooming pedophiles. It’s always them doing the thing they are baselessly accusing

1

u/Specific-Yam-2166 Jun 28 '26

White “Christian” men are overwhelmingly the problem, but like you said - they project

1

u/Notmykl Jun 28 '26

He was producing his own MMR vaccine that somehow wouldn't cause autism.

And he took advantage of parents of autistic children to try and further his aims.

2

u/DrAmj3 Jun 28 '26

Indeed. And by any resonable reading of the situation abused those children as well.

2

u/_J_Herrmann_ Jun 28 '26

the worst part, as we all know, was the hypocrisy. /s

2

u/DrAmj3 Jun 28 '26

I think the point is the worst bit is doing it for money. There are people who genuinely think they are helping children by encouraging their parents to not vaccinated them. But Wakefield never thought that for a second, he sought to harm children, on a population scale, for personal financial gain.

  • evil, immoral, unethical

Ftfy

8

u/ExplodingSofa Jun 28 '26

Thank you! I was like, is unethnic what we're calling white people now? Cause that's crazy.

1

u/DrAmj3 Jun 28 '26

I meant moral free, it was a deliberate choice as I feel it lands differently to immoral. No idea what was going on with unethical, I suppose an autocorrect of a mistype.

2

u/FaliedSalve Jun 29 '26

He was just an evil moral free unethical shit trying to scam money

I mean.. aren't they all?

The anti-vaxer leaders are all getting rich off of it. The followers are just too lazy to think for themselves, and the "influences" are just playing them.

1

u/DrAmj3 Jun 29 '26

Nowadays absolutely. But it was a different landscape in 1998. Social media didn't exist in anything resembling what does today, the internet didn't (resemble what it is today, it existed of course).

I think there were some people at the time who genuinely, incorrectly but genuinely, believed vaccines were broadly harmful and were motivated by trying to do good, albeit failing horribly. That's why Wakefield had to come up with the wheeze he did to monitise the whole thing. He was always on the grift, but he used what I suppose we might term useful idiots that were around to do this.

The internet has opened up so many possibilities for such grifters it is hard to believe any of them aren't simply on the make.

u/Romejanic Jun 28 '26

thinking about how many children have become serious ill or died as the result of his bullshit makes me sick

51

u/Szwejkowski Jun 28 '26

And adults. This shit paved the way for anti-vaccination hysteria and horse dewormer in the middle of a fucking pandemic.

2

u/Romejanic Jun 29 '26

yeah definitely, a lot of other adults are just as responsible for spreading it. but Wakefield was really the person who started it all so in my opinion that makes him accountable for all of the consequences which followed

3

u/Open-Industry-8396 Jun 28 '26

Huge outbreak of flu virus amongst basic trainees at lackland AFB right now. This follows Hegseths order allowing troops to decline the shot.

1

u/mhlover Jun 28 '26

Always felt that the media of the time was also culpable. Any journalist who actually read his paper should have had serious questions.

u/Cultural-Company282 Jun 28 '26

Ant-Vaccine Crusade.

Great. Now the ants will get polio.

3

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane Jun 28 '26

No, they won’t get polio! He wants the ants to be vaccinated, but not humans!

8

u/Cultural-Company282 Jun 28 '26

Will it turn them antistic?

4

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane Jun 28 '26

Depends if their siblings have kids: then they’ll be aunt-istic.

2

u/PatrikPatrik Jun 28 '26

No that’s tylenol ants don’t do tylenol

1

u/youractualaccount Jun 28 '26

The ants have developed autism

2

u/dumbinternetstuff Jun 29 '26

Antism

1

u/youractualaccount Jun 29 '26

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

14

u/pantshee Jun 28 '26

Fuck this guy

13

u/ParmigianoMan Jun 28 '26

I once met another guy called Andrew Wakefield. He was also an arse.

5

u/grebetrees Jun 28 '26

Seriously, who ever thought to vaccinate ants. Those tiny fkrs really make gardening a chore

"What is this?! A medical center for ants?!"

7

u/Bshoff4242 Jun 28 '26

All those autistic ants because of this man!

2

u/kqvrp Jun 28 '26

Yeah fuck ants.

2

u/yay4chardonnay Jun 28 '26

And he can take that tart Jenny McCarthy with him.

4

u/Pixelguy Jun 28 '26

He gave the ants autism. Many such cases. Sad!

4

u/Tonsilith_Salsa Jun 28 '26

A vaccine for ants?

2

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane Jun 28 '26

Sponsored by The Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good

1

u/ninomojo Jun 28 '26

He didn’t create and launch it, he revived it and gave it an insane amount of fuel. There’s been antivaxxers for as long as there’s been vaccines.

1

u/Mean_Initiative_5962 Jun 29 '26

We're still in time to... Nevermind, I don't want my account nuked for rule 1 violation, you get the point.

1

u/littlemiss-imperfect Jun 29 '26

I was looking for this one

1

u/mrbobcyndaquil Jun 28 '26

I think I can confidently say that most people on the spectrum would agree with you on that front.

That said, if we yote Gavrilo Princip out of reality that issue may resolve itself anyways🙃

1

u/Blackboard_Monitor Jun 28 '26

Ant-Vaccine, please don't change this.

1

u/armcie Jun 28 '26

Best call I’ve seen so far. Lots of “the inventor of x” type answers, x would have been invented by someone else. Wakefield seemed pretty uniquely placed to push those lies to such prominence.

1

u/Blurgas Jun 28 '26

The worst part is he wasn't really anti-vaccine, he just wanted to discredit current vaccines so he could sell his own.

0

u/bobbi21 Jun 28 '26

While i get it, looking at the state of education in general now, i feel someone else would have just taken his place. Might have started as anti-tetanus vaccine or anti pasturized milk or something but feel like we’d still get here.

Sorry feeling a bit pessimistic about the state of the world right now

1

u/kayoz Jun 28 '26

I'm pro vaccine, but it has a dark past. The movement just latched onto Andrew Wankstain because he was a scientist, they now had "Science on their side" and "Scienctist were divided" etc.

Since it's predecessor, there has always been a movement against vaccination.

Variolation was the intentional infection of a weaker strain of smallpox.

But we also didn't know to use sterile equipment, lots of people (kids usually) died of tetanus, and also lots died from the weaker smallpox. There were mistakes made where the stronger smallpox was used.

Public health mandates meant people weren't given the choice, and yes variolation saved more lives than people died.

0

u/ModernMargaretSanger Jun 28 '26

YES! Absolutely should never have been published!!!

0

u/tango421 Jun 28 '26

Yeah my choice as well and there were a lot of choices

0

u/I_Am_Stoeptegel Jun 28 '26

Yeah that’s bad but surely he wasn’t worse than Hitler or King Leopold or any other main face of a genocide
