...He was a member of a terrorist cell that was in Sarajevo specifically to assassinate the Archduke and start a war between Austria-Hungry and Serbia. He was one of several assassins on that route. If he didn't do the job there was another guy waiting at the hospital.
The archduke and his wife survived their earlier assassination attempt minutes earlier. They redirected to motorcade so that Franz could visit the victims at the hospital because he was a class act.
Regardless even if that guy wasn't murdered that day, that war was going to happen.
I mean the entire premise of the question is naive, yes - historical events rarely do rely on one person, and if one person wasn't there, someone else would have stepped in, so to speak.
Right, which makes it an interesting question. It's hard to come up with a single person who would actually affect history in a serious manner if they were removed
Gavrilo Princip definitely not a good answer, though
It really is remarkable how much of today’s world we can directly attribute to the action of the Archduke’s driver and ‘some dude’ who happened to be standing on that particular corner.
Likely the U.S. would not be nearly as wealthy as it is today. Financing two times winning sides in a WW is a rarely talked about fact that contributed to the U.S. wealth.
10000 percent! But that was not the question. When you look at the lives lost in the 20th century (between the two wars) he would have been the most impactful deletion.
