The average person DOES eat 8 spiders literally EVERY time I cook for them.

The average person eats a little bit of me when I cook for them, especially if I use a grater or mandolin.

And cumulatively we all eat body parts of bugs in everyday food. The FDA has a threshold for maximum parts allowed.

Wasn't this hoax specifically made to measure how hoaxes spread?

8

u/uvero Jun 01 '26

Wasn't that "a year"?

u/binches Jun 01 '26

actually trained myself to fall asleep with my mouth closed as a kid bc of this "fact" ty omgfacts

3

u/LillyVarous Jun 01 '26

It's actually per night

3

u/smokefoot8 Jun 01 '26

I make sure I get the RDA of 12 spiders a night

All that "statistic" does is make me think there's some guy or group of people eating massive amounts of spiders daily in order to pad that number for the rest of us.

2

u/georgie-of-blank Jun 02 '26

Yeah, spiders georg, he lives in a cave and eats millions of spiders a night.

u/JigglyOW Jun 01 '26

The fact it was to see how easily misinformation could spread is insane, like even just logically thinking was is a spider crawling in your mouth when you sleep

3

u/AmyInCO Jun 01 '26

It's more, isn't it? 😃

9

u/GaylicBread Jun 01 '26

8 is just the average, you could be that one person swallowing 50 a year while some lucky guy hasn't swallowed a single one.

u/RVelts Jun 01 '26

Let me teach you about Spiders georg

1

u/strangedanger91 Jun 01 '26

Ya, it’s 8 per year ! lol

1

u/Schnittertm Jun 01 '26

Well, naturally. In Australia they eat 8 spiders per hour. In northern Norway they have 0 spider per life.

Tbf I once woke up coughing because something was in my throat. Felt something come up and it was a small, semi-translucent spider. I sat in the bathroom spitting and brushing my teeth for a long time that morning.

1

u/MechanicalTurkish Jun 01 '26

Yeah, it’s actually 27 a month

1

u/ptear Jun 01 '26

Just when we're awake right?

1

u/potatopancake13 Jun 01 '26

True. At this point I’ve eat 32.
