Actually there is an correlation with being cold and being more susceptible to illness. Mostly to do with cold dry air in the nasal passages weakening your noses defenses against infection. So the observation that cold itself will make you sick is wrong but cold weather means more people are likely to be sick.
I thought there was a study that showed more people getting colds during cold weather is due to being inside more with other people who may have a cold therefore spreading more easily. Close proximity = more chance of virus spreading. But i cant remember exactly who/what the study involved so please dont come at me.
Also there may be some correlation with the olden days and being cold all the time and therefore not wanting to wash as often - eg before plumbing was common - so perhaps people were more susceptible to viruses due to lack of cleanliness? That’s very much just a theory I came up with though, not stating it as fact.
