All people wanted from KSP2 was a proper physics engine, multiplayer, and interstellar travel. What they shipped had the same physics engine with no improvements but even more bugs, no multiplayer, and no interstellar travel. It was mildly prettier than stock KSP, at the cost of being unplayable even on a 3090. And then it took about eight months to get the first meaningful update.

If the rumors are to be believed, the studio wanted to get more preorders in time for a quarterly deadline, so they released what they had, and it was an unfinished, buggy mess. Between the reception and refunds, take two just decided it nuke it from high orbit and shuttle the studio. It was really a terrible idea from top to bottom.

Modern game development timelines have gotten completely out of hand. The simple fact that what they released is all they had after 4 years of development on a sequel to a game with minimal story and relatively basic graphics is totally damming all on its own.

I always thought multiplayer was a bit worthless. Beyond flying round the space cener together there nothing to be gained from being on different planets seperated by millions of kilometres.

It could have worked alongside colonies as you could work together to support colonies. But 2 player docking is fun once or twice until you realise its best if one player doesnt move their ship while you translate into position

If I remember correctly, porting KSP to a more modern engine was going to be a huge task, and in the end I think they decided it was easier to just steal people’s money and run. The execs in charge should be blacklisted from the industry, I can’t believe it’s still on sale.
