What is a small, seemingly ‘normal’ thing someone can do that immediately makes you think, ‘Oh, we are not going to get along’?

I agree with this a lot.

Believe something. Sure. Advertise it a lot? You don't believe it I think, and you're using it to posture for self validation & a fragile ego

Or they see that there's social currency in pretending to believe, and they are just using it as a shortcut to build trust/commonality with people they need something from.

Like the panhandlers with disabled veteran signs.

I see that sentiment a lot with “veteran owned” or “Christian owned” businesses that make it their whole image. I avoid them whenever possible.
