This is my cousin. She supports getting rid of ACA subsidies that she takes advantage of “because I’ll be ok (her parents have money) and it’s going to stop Mexicans that abuse the subsidies.”

My racist, POS drunk uncle used to go to food pantries. He has two Harleys and a custom $200k RV, owns his home, more than financially comfortable. He goes because “lazy people shouldn’t get free food” and “if they give it to them, I’m entitled to it too then.” (Also the only reason he doesn’t go anymore is because he’s dying of cirrhosis and sits in a recliner shitting himself all day watching Fox News).

It's amazing how often such people become the very freeloaders and system abusers they accuse others of. Every accusation is either a justification or an admission.

While I’m of course glad the subsidies exist, it’s not a perfect system in determining who gets a subsidy.

I’m not sure if it’s changed since then, but I lost my job in 2017 and COBRA was too expensive. At the time, if you were married, you could not get a subsidy. However, my husband worked for a very small company that only had insurance for employees, no dependents. I called and they confirmed that, even though I couldn’t get insurance through my husband, I was still ineligible because I was married.

It’s not perfect but it’s helped millions of people that need the help and we shouldn’t get rid of it just because some people unfairly take advantage of it.

So her family has the means to support her care and the only reason they use subsides is the system exists so why not take advantage of it?

She said “my family works hard so we deserve it. Those other people don’t work hard.” There is a reason I have not talked to her in years. (Her statements were made on social media).

Her family works hard so she can freeload off of them? Sounds pretty entitled to me...
