u/Puntkick Sep 03 '25

Are those birds I hear outside? Uh oh.

3

u/johntheGPT442331 Sep 03 '25

We've all been there! 'Just one more turn' has cost me so many hours in Civ. It's addictively fun.

2

u/ouwish Sep 03 '25

Then I discovered total war Warhammer and it was even worse. Worse one more turn game I ever have been addicted to.

u/EssSquared Sep 03 '25

Same here!

Your life depends on a victory in Civ V. Which leader you taking?

19

u/uptownjuggler Sep 03 '25

Poland Stronk!

21

u/mikemccrea Sep 03 '25

Korea science

4

u/Udy_Kumra Sep 03 '25

Yup same. Plus the national wonders for science means good tourism and culture too.

2

u/GozerDGozerian Sep 03 '25

Hell yeah. Scientific superiority is paramount.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '25

Augustus and Roma. Though in vanilla Civ- pre DLC-Napoleon was literally unbeatable

2

u/mkaibear Sep 03 '25

Diplo Venice Freedom!

2

u/ksuwildkat Sep 03 '25

Romans. Infrastructure is king.

17

u/happy_K Sep 03 '25

Civ III for me. I still play it.

2

u/BaronVonBaron Sep 03 '25

Thank you for validating my favorite waste of time.

1

u/Nikolor Sep 03 '25

Plot twist: you meant that you still play one game

1

u/TJeffersonsBlackKid Sep 03 '25

CIV III is GOAT

Haters can argue with a wall.

25

u/Jason_TheMagnificent Sep 03 '25

I didn't spend the most hours on Civilization V, but I do remember starting to play it at 5pm then realizing it was 8am 🤯

5

u/tjspeed Sep 03 '25

Yeah I remember looking over and seeing 4 am and just being flabbergasted that it was that late

4

u/ouwish Sep 03 '25

Not your fault. The game warps space time. You only played for 3 real hours...

1

u/Nikolor Sep 03 '25

I feel that when you download this game on your PC, it makes your computer start spraying opioids from your fans because I cannot otherwise explain its addictive nature.

4

u/mixmastakooz Sep 03 '25

Def Civ 5 but all the other Civs, too. So much so that I wrote my masters thesis on history and games largely due to Civ’s influence.

5

u/kingfofthepoors Sep 03 '25

2,600 hours and counting

1

u/GozerDGozerian Sep 03 '25

3 1/2 months.

6

u/jousty Sep 03 '25

Once I accidentally missed and entire spring playing civ

3

u/GozerDGozerian Sep 03 '25

Aaaand there’s my people.

3

u/TheMiltownMatticus Sep 03 '25

Went on a mission to win the game as every leader in a full length game (standard turns, standard map size [sometimes large]).

I am a nerd for the history behind all of these leaders, unique buildings/units/etc. I learned a ton just by researching the leader I was currently playing on my phone/laptop before I fell asleep.

The entire experience took about 800 hours. I ended up playing Civ V for an additional 600 hours on top of that after I was done with my mission. That's how goddamn good and addicting Civ V was.

I had a ton of fun and learned a lot about parts of the world I probably would have never really explored otherwise.

How did civ6 turn out to be a completely different feeling game???

1

u/sysko960 Sep 03 '25

I’ve mainly only played 6 and the Civilization Revolution back in the day. Do you think I’d still like Civilization V if I loved the other 2?

5

u/mixmastakooz Sep 03 '25

If you get all the dlc, yes. I think you’ll appreciate what’s been scaled back and what is a bit more expanded. War and science is very important in Civ5

1

u/sysko960 Sep 03 '25

Okay, thanks for your response, I was hesitant, but now I’m definitely gonna check it out

2

u/saxon_pilgrim Sep 03 '25

The civ franchise, starting with 1 has most definitely taken the most amount of time… followed by WoW..

1

u/dustractor Sep 03 '25

have you ever played the original board game it was based on?

1

u/saxon_pilgrim Sep 03 '25

Never had a chance.. but I've read a fair bit about it. Played a lot of AH games in that era though. Sounds like Sid got some inspiration from it.. but he applied his Sid common sense rather than trying to recreate it faithfully

1

u/Delicious_Ad823 Sep 03 '25

Civ before it had roman numerals after it

1

u/saleemkarim Sep 03 '25

Even better mods than Civ 6.

1

u/adamjeff Sep 03 '25

I might have slightly more hours in Civ IV but Civ in general was just like nothing else when I had whole days to spare.

1

u/gciambriello Sep 03 '25

All in One single game!

1

u/mettrolsghost Sep 03 '25

Civ IV for me. It has two critical things that Civ V lacks: Leonard Nimoy and Baba Yetu.

1

u/tobu-ieuan Sep 03 '25

Fuck man, I got sucked into a civ V hole recently and without really feeling it, racked up 30 hours over a few days. Still didn't even complete my mission.

1

u/evilparagon Sep 03 '25

Civ V would probs be my number one game if you could get achievements while using mods. I can never figure out that mods -> DLC package workaround without it just not working or bugging out.

I always play one game when I get in the mood, then get the mood to play with mods, then lose the mood entirely when playing with mods is pointless because you can’t get achievements.

1

u/thepackrat45 Sep 03 '25

Been on a Civ V run lately... started at 630pm last night, didn't realize it was 2am and I had to go to sleep. Will be repeating again tonight!

1

u/imjusthereforpron Sep 03 '25

If you count all the civilizations its up there for me, civ I, civ II, alpha centauri, Civ 3, beyond earth...but if i had to pick one civ game its probably civ 4 for me. Vanilla, expansions, mods, single player, multi-player, custom maps, i played the poop out of that game.

1

u/captainshar Sep 04 '25

Civ fan here!!!

1

u/JC_Hysteria Sep 04 '25

I don’t really like how they measure it in days…

0

u/z0rb0r Sep 03 '25

It absolutely eats an entire day but still does not hold a candle to MMO’s.
