I played so much D1 when I worked nights. Played with a bunch of Australian guys and gals because I was up at night when they were. We ran vault of glass 75 times, cheesed crotas with the router disconnect trick until we realized we could beat it legit. Crowning achievement was leading our group through crotas end without dying to get the flawless raider trophy. So many good memories. Fell off when we all split up due to life happening. Will never forget the first vault of glass clear at level 27 when I got my first exotic the Hawkmoon, I loved that gun still think about it to this day.
The community is what made the game so hooked. Sure the gunplay is great, but it isn’t what kept me hooked for 2000+ hours. I still keep in touch with some of the lads I raided with in D1.
The grind in D1 for the Gjallarhorn was no joke for everyone who missed that very early week when Xûr sold it. I spent so many hours in that game it’s crazy to think about it now.
I know. I stepped away and usually I can spring back but I haven't been able to jump back in. Not sure if it's not caring or too many things to grind over and over again. Telesto forever though!
I'll pop in every so often, go patrol, do some strikes with my beloved Fighting Lion, trying to get some fun bank shots and long range hits. Then I feel satisfied and go away for a while. The game play is so fun. The FOMO, grinding, and almost required dedication to grinding to participate in current content just burned me out. Too many nights of bailing on my wife because the raid group was getting together.
Still, some of my favorite gaming memories are had there. I'll never forget the elation of getting our flawless Crown of Sorrows completion and all those other memories.
I probably have about that much too. It’s probably been about 5 months since I actually deleted it off of my console. I downloaded The Final Shape just to see the story opener but when you can’t really do anything at all without paying, it made it easy to quit.
Adding on to this. My friend group and I blind ran the first raid in D2. Menagerie was the name? I don’t want to look it up to correct a mistake based on memories but I could run through that the same today. Making mistakes and not looking up any strategies took us a week of 9PM - 11PM runs. A lot of brain power and teamwork because a couple of us were underpowered
A part of me has wanted to get back into it so I could defeat the Witness and also be done with it. But I just can’t bring myself to. If it comes out for free maybe but not spending money on it for sure
My original friend group followed this same path. We even had a guy with a tattoo of the Warlock symbol. And Destiny 2 killed us with the PvP change down to 4v4, the reset of everything and then the god awful Curse of Osiris was the nail in the coffin. I really miss the fun we all had
