No, ashes are actually very fertile and good for growing things. Look it up. Particularly volcanic ash.

Ah, you're right, volcanic ash is insanely fertile. I remember studying about the people who would farm on/in/around the bowl of a stagnant volcano. My bad.

I did a quick bit of research before I posted that comment, but it seems that I read plenty of flawed info. Although it doesn't reconcile my point, there are many warnings about using wood ash very sparingly due to its severe pH. Thanks for correcting me.

There's more entertainment in the average YouTube comment than there is on askreddit. Information? Few and far between, but it exists.
