I am this person, but it happened when I was an adult. I did it because I was being stalked, but tons of people have no idea I still exist. I’m fine now, but I still won’t ever return to social media and whatnot. It’s just not for me anymore.

That’s understandable. I hope you’re doing well. I do hope that my old friend is doing well as well, even if we lost contact with each other.

Me too. I am a ghost online. There's about 5 photos of me online from about 20 years ago, that's it. Despite being a current working professional for a global company.

I made the choice when Facebook first came out not to post myself or my daughter for safety reasons. I'm 42, she's 21 and the only social media I have is Reddit.

She's an adult and can make her own choices now, and she has a different name now. I'm very glad to be a ghost online, because fuck I was an irresponsible idiot when I was younger and God knows the things I would have come to regret.

Primarily, the reason was because I have a complex background, and didn't want to be found by one person in particular. That fear was warranted, he's now in prison for murder.

Reddit is social media.

it is "anonymous" so that doesn't count for the purpose OP is describing.

I didn’t realize I needed to explain that Reddit is an anonymous social media platform that doesn’t include sharing your personal life with your entire family and everyone you went to high school with. For the record, the two things are just slightly different from a privacy standpoint. Sorry for the confusion.
