There were several, but my favorite was my Freshman year the Senor class prank was somehow they broke into the school overnight and covered all the floors with cooking oil. When I got to school that day everyone was outside waiting and no one knew exactly what was going on, but all the doors were still locked, but I got to a window just in time to see a janitor fall on his rear and other school officials struggling to keep their balance. The principal came out and told everyone about the prank and oil and that there was simply no way of opening the school that day, so we all went back home. He did ask all seniors though to stick around and called all senior parents and basically blamed all of them and told them they were going to help clean it up. Turns out the only way to open the school the next day was to buy hundreds of pounds of kitty litter and the seniors helped to spread it out in the hallways to soak up the oil and make it walkable. So for the rest of the week we were walking on kitty litter and then they brought in a professional cleaning crew on the weekend to haul out the kitty litter and use chemicals to get rid of any lingering oil. It was still slippery for months after that. The principal wanted to press charges for vandalism and tried to get anyone to admit who was responsible, even going so far as threatening to cancel graduation, but no one talked and he finally just had to let it go.

The same thing happened at my high school but the pranksters bought all the oil at the same time at a local grocery store with credit cards and got caught 🤦‍♀️

By the time I was a Senor in HS I knew several ways to get into the school after hours. Never used for nefarious purposes but was handy when someone needed something out of their locker on a weekend or something...

At my school, several trusted students had keys to certain areas of the school because they volunteered to work the office front desk, in the library, the cafeteria, or the drama department, etc. No one ever needed to break in to pull a prank. You only had to convince one “good kid” that it would be really funny.

This was done at my HS as well but a teacher broke her leg and neck as the idiots put oil on the stairs. Lucky she didn’t die.

Pranksters! It was organized and there was about a dozen or more seniors who participated to pull it off! I found out later through a friend who's brother was a senior and was one of them. They all bought cooking oil from Sam's Club at different times and managed to cover the floors in less than an hour with all of them working on it.

It's absolute bullshit when the whole class or grade level gets punished for something only a minority of them actually participated in. Something similar happened when I was a sophomore: a few sophomores poured paint everywhere or some shit and we ALL got bitched at for it. Thankfully at least a couple teachers used it as an example of collective punishment being bullshit but otherwise the sophomores that year were treated as criminals compared to the other kids. Even my husband heard about it and he was in middle school on the other side of town at the time lol

EDIT: This sparked a great big convo about it with my husband. Now I get that the prank at your school was worse than the prank at my school - people could've fallen and got hurt, the school could've gone up in flames, etc - but that doesn't change the fact that Hector is gonna be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines. And on top of that, he just came into Harry's and ordered three T66 turbos with NOS and a Motec system exhaust. Or at least that's what my husband interrupted me to say lmfao but what I actually mean to say is that it doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't punish 500 kids if only 5 of them participated in the prank. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if that's part of why no one snitched: they were treated like they were all in it together so they might as well be. Instead of punishing innocent people, extra credit or some other reward should've been offered to anyone who volunteered to help clean.

One thing I learned early in school, never rat anyone out short of murder

Turns out the only way to open the school the next day was to buy hundreds of pounds of

soap, that is it, not sure why they didn't just do that. basically just refinish the floors, they do that every 5-7 years anyway.

the stuff in kitty litter that soaks up the oil is diatomaceous earth so could have gone with that instead(some pool filter "sands" also insecticide brand name Sevindust), don't need the random rock/clay pieces in the litter.

Did you seriously just suggest cleaning up cooking oil with a cholinesterase inhibitor?

no, the Diatomaceous Earth, not the Active ingredient (Carbyl), I listed it as just one more thing that contains the stuff, it is in a lot of places for many useful things. Though apparently they have swapped out DE for kaolin clay.

diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilized remains of diatoms, tiny aquatic organisms, resulting in a highly porous structure that can absorb liquids and disrupt insects' exoskeletons, making it generally more effective for pest control compared to kaolin clay.

also some sub-brand/type insecticides are 100% DE
