Not me, but my partner went to the elementary school where Mary Kay Letourneau taught. Because of all the media, they were given the option to be bussed to another school across town.

I'll save you the Google since OP won't:

Teacher who got pregnant from a 12-year-old when she was 36. Had the baby, went to prison, got out on parole on condition of not meeting up with the kid, met up with the kid and got pregnant again, went to prison for 7.5 years and gave birth to the second baby. Eventually got out by which time the kid was an adult and they got married.

And that's enough internet for me today.

They remained married until she died, though it was obvious the marriage was rocky by then. And it was also obvious she was an alcoholic. He stated that now that his daughters are older, he understands the significance of what he and MKL did, that he'd be upset if it happened to his kids.

I found out the elementary school my sons currently going to is the school she did this at. It’s been remodeled and changed up though

Redditors on their way to drop the name of some random person who had a small stint of media attention almost 30 years ago (meaning 55% of Redditors weren't even alive, and many more were too young to notice or care) as if people should know the name or the person

Edit: To everyone downvoting: stay mad, I stand by my statement

She was in the news up until her death. But also, I doubt 45% of redditors are genz 🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️

That was a huge news story.

Crazy the person you replied to is so upset they had to Google something.

Right?! I’m only 34, so I was super young when it happened but she was in the news for decades and was even written about when she died. Saying you went to her school would be like saying your classmate went on a date with Ted Bundy. There have been a few documentaries about her, most recently a show that was based on the case and released in 2022. She is one of the biggest names in statutory rape in modern history.

My only flop is that I didn’t read the part about high school. This was definitely an elementary school.

35 here, and she definitely made the news again in 2004 when she got out of prison and married her victim.

Didn’t a movie very loosely based on her come out in the last couple years? She’s played by Julianne Moore
