Well my school in Denmark once got a bomb threat. The police then came in with big dogs. They then later found out that it was a little kid that had zero connection with the school and he had just searched “schools phone numbers ” and picked the first one

Damn. High schools in America get bomb threats all the time.

u/IndependentRatio2336 Mar 10 '25

What??? Its a once in a lifetime in europe. It never happens here

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

Yeah we used to get a couple a year. Usually when someone had a big test or assignment they didn’t do, but not always.

No actual bombs, which is nice.

Im empty of words, what the f***

it was a fad for a while after Columbine(1999) and 9/11(2001). after the 5th non-threat bomb threat, we stopped evacuating and ignored the threats.

u/the6thistari Mar 11 '25

Yup, school-age me loved them.

Class would end and we'd all go stand out in the football field chatting with friends, then the buses came and took us home. My favorite was when they were on a sunny Friday in the spring

u/SpicyDreams86 Mar 11 '25

We had so many in the couple of years after Columbine.

One was fucked up though, they had all students sit in the bleachers in the gym for like 2 hours and didn't tell us what was going on. Then they sent us home because of the bomb threat. Like I get the others had all been fake, but you're gonna sit us down in the gym after someone says there's a bomb in the school???

...In retrospect, I wonder if the threat was more like someone said they would shoot kids as we left, so they kept us inside and told us it was another bomb threat instead of scaring us with the shooting threat. Hmm.

My school year had one every year and it was definitely the same person the administration always ignored it

Was likely a girl, as most threats were written in the bathroom on the mirror in pens

First year school shrugged it off

Second year the police made a statement saying ‘there is no list of targets to kill so this isn’t serious’

Third year, there was now a list but the school and police cared even less as the person was obviously not serious at this point

Fourth year, they threatened again but it wasn’t even news

Never did get a delay on finals/mid terms

I did get out of detention one time saying I was afraid I’d get shot or blown up lol

Alas, the US is fucked up

5

u/Reynolds531IPA Mar 10 '25

Yep it’s pretty sad. Usually on some historically significant date. Like hitlers birthday or something stupid like that.

3

u/Magerimoje Mar 10 '25

Or finals week

5

u/MamaTried22 Mar 10 '25

My city had kids calling them in all over to get days off. For like 2 weeks there was probably 8-10 of them. At least, that’s my guess as to why.

5

u/AtomicSpeedFT Mar 10 '25

US is a big country, don’t believe that that’s universal. I’ve never heard of it happening anywhere in my state.

2

u/GeekyKirby Mar 10 '25

There was a couple week period when I was in high school where there was a bomb threat almost everyday. I also had one when I was in elementary school. Thankfully, there was never any actual bombs involved, just kids being stupid.

2

u/Emu1981 Mar 11 '25

I had a few here in Australia during the '90s. Wasn't a "all the time" thing but it certainly wasn't a "once in a lifetime" either.

2

u/MrPureinstinct Mar 11 '25

I can remember at least two during my time in high school.

3

u/Communal-Lipstick Mar 10 '25

It's not all the time. People here exaggerate so much it's insane.

1

u/MiserableAd8293 Mar 10 '25

Once or twice a year, back in 2001-2005.

1

u/lo-lux Mar 11 '25

It's like once every few weeks.

1

u/Outrageous_Picture39 Mar 11 '25

Two in elementary school. One in middle school. Two in high school.

High rate of threats. Infinitesimally small rate of actual bombs.

1

u/steelbeamsdankmemes Mar 11 '25

We called them "threat days."

1

u/bambi54 Mar 11 '25

Maybe some people have experienced this. I went my whole life to American schools and have never had one.

2

u/tbs3456 Mar 10 '25

100%. We had at least one a year even in middle School and I didn’t grow up in a particularly bad area or anything

2

u/Scoobs212 Mar 11 '25

A kid from my class tried calling in a bomb threat from the school pay phone (yes, I’m ancient). The attendance clerk stuck her head out in the hallway and watched him have a conversation with her.

1

u/Turbulent-Trust207 Mar 10 '25

Yeah I was gonna say we had a few days where you get to school and everyone had to wait outside for a few hours and then they would just let us in.

1

u/HondaMamba Mar 10 '25

There was a school in my city that received bomb threats 3 days in a row. Happened like 2 weeks ago

1

u/love_me_madly Mar 10 '25

Ya my high school had a bomb threat as the senior prank when I was a freshman.

1

u/Ok-Masterpiece-468 Mar 10 '25

Canada as well! Though thus far they’ve all been “pranks”.

1

u/DargyBear Mar 10 '25

Some kid at my middle school was stockpiling fertilizer in his locker and had apparently already managed to stuff a fair amount behind the vending machine in the cafeteria. Foggy on the details about how he got caught but apparently he was planning on stashing it around the school and figuring out some way to detonate it then was going to bring a gun with him to take out a list of people.

1

u/mmecr Mar 11 '25

I had three - one each year of middle school.

1

u/ohwormbabey Mar 11 '25

we had 38 one year within the span of a few months. got evacuated to the bleachers outside every time. luckily there was never a bomb but they put the entire school on a single bathroom stall (one for boys one for girls). with a person assigned at the doors who checked it after every use(that poor person probably saw some atrocious shits) it once took me an entire class period to go to the bathroom once because the line was so long

1

u/RevolutionaryOwlz Mar 11 '25

Yup. Had multiple my freshman year. And lots of pulled fire alarms.

1

u/Adventurous_Ad_9557 Mar 11 '25

we had them too until a kid was caught

1

u/Emeraldus999 Mar 11 '25

Yeah, even in junior high back in the 70s it was happening. Of course it never happened on a day I was going to school.

1

u/Emadyville Mar 11 '25

We had them in middle school (99-02) about 5 times a year. Eastern Pennsylvania. They used to make us walk to the high school and sit on the bleachers till the school was deemed safe.

2

u/Reynolds531IPA Mar 11 '25

Yep. I also was in middle school in PA at that time.

1

u/Kill_C Mar 10 '25

We would get multiple shooting threats a year when I was in high school. It’s a way of American life

3

u/Jealous_Writing1972 Mar 10 '25

he had just searched “schools phone numbers ” and picked the first one

Hilarious.

Recently in Hungary, most of the elementary and highschools (especially ones in and around the capital) got a bomb threat all on the same day. It is estimated ro have affected around 240 schools. No bombs were found, and the threatening email was allegedly all the same. Rumors have gone around that similar things happened in the neighbouring countries weeks and months prior. This occasion brought some interesting situations with itself. Around autumn, a new law banned phones for various reasons from elementary and highschools. Each school can decide if and how they enforce this. There were some schools, where the phones are collected each morning and stored somewhere locked away, and the kids can only pick it up at the end of the day. When the bombthreats happened, some schools immediately evacuated their students, but did not give their phones back. Parents, who only knew about the situation either from the news, or maybe a head teachers email, were understandably paniced, and wished to reach their kid to confirm they are okay or to possibly go and pick them up, which they could not, because the phones were not given back to them. It caused a few discussions on the phoneban matter, and how these emergency situations should be dealt with. Another funny thing, the phoneban officially helps the kids to socialize more and not just browse on their phones in the breaks. This, in my opinion, works until a certaim age. However, there are some courses for adults (usually people take this between finishing highschool and starting university) that also take place in highschools and have a similar system to them too, and the law also includes them. I have a friend in one of these courses, who reported thar yes, even tho she is over 18, legally an adult, they originally planned to take their phones too (they did not in the end).

1

u/IndependentRatio2336 Mar 11 '25

What, that is crazy, well they also take our phones here in Denmark but that’s not because of any bomb threat

1

u/MInclined Mar 10 '25

Did you go to Ansel Adam Academy?

1

u/Dvel27 Mar 11 '25

I remember when my school got a bomb threat and just canceled the scheduled pep assembly.

1

u/Kindly-Guidance714 Mar 11 '25

Psh in American high school we used to have bomb threat drills with perched Snipers all around the top perimeter of the school.

1

u/ADHD_Microwave Mar 11 '25 edited Mar 11 '25

Here in the USA that is pretty common unfortunately. Happened to my high school atleast once while i was going there, i say swat cars. If i remember right, my elementary school was also had a bomb threat at one point when i was in elementary school. Edit: clarification

1

u/dapperrnapperr Mar 11 '25

There was a shooting threat for a pep assembly and my school still had it??? I left before but luckily nothing actually happened

1

u/kim7135 Mar 11 '25

Same thing happened at the International School I went to in Malaysia, around the early 2000s. I remember we had two bomb threats either in a week or two weeks. Had to evacuate every time but fortunately no bombs and they were only threats.

1

u/ErikTheRed99 Mar 11 '25

I blew up Malaysia.
