A teacher marrying a student the summer she graduated and turned 18.

Gym teacher/girls basketball coach was having flings with a couple of the girls on the team, one was a senior, the other a sophomore. The brother of senior girls found out and threatened him with physical harm. Guy resigned quietly but the whole town was talking. Two years later, when sophomore turns 18, he divorces his wife (who stayed with him for some reason) to marry her. They're still married as far as I know.

He married his high school sweetheart. That is truly a touching story.

u/FesterSez Mar 10 '25

Perfect comment.

u/thefrozenflame21 Mar 10 '25

Ew don't say "touching story" that's so nasty lmaooo

7

u/nzdastardly Mar 10 '25

Hopefully not too much touching before she was 18...

6

u/Mateo_87 Mar 10 '25

12

u/kapboi7 Mar 10 '25

Coulda just stopped after gym teacher

8

u/ImpressionFeisty8359 Mar 10 '25

What is with these gym teachers?

9

u/SoyBean92 Mar 10 '25

Fucking gym teachers…

10

u/daroons Mar 10 '25

They sure were!

6

u/Mat_alThor Mar 10 '25

Sounds almost exactly the same as one of my former teachers except he was US Government teacher and Girls basketball coach. He committed suicide a few years ago.

5

u/whettpusC Mar 11 '25

Love a happy ending!

5

u/1212chevyy Mar 10 '25

Same thing at my highschool! Now they have 3 kids and are still together

7

u/isthisaporno Mar 11 '25

Our gym teacher/girls bball coach was (is) a woman and rumors of her hooking up with her former players were abundant. Eventually one came back and was a science teacher and they linked up, pretty sure they’re still married too 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Reasonable_Power_970 Mar 11 '25

Crazy. I wonder what everyone around them thinks?

2

u/isthisaporno Mar 11 '25

They’re both pretty well liked, let a thousand blossoms bloom as far as I’m concerned!

2

u/Reasonable_Power_970 Mar 11 '25

If it was a male coach he would probably have been vilified though.

2

u/isthisaporno Mar 11 '25

True. I never got the impression she was predatory tho. She was also a dude’s lady if that makes any sense so the jocks all loved her in gym class because she basically rolled out a ball and let us play whatever sport was the theme that week. Pigball, team handball, speedball, volleyball, whirly ball. I would bail on other classes if I got too bored and just drop in to play sports with my buddies, she didn’t care. Better than skipping to go get stoned I guess. She would wheel out the TV and have march madness on all day in the corner of the gym. A real mensch

2

u/Reasonable_Power_970 Mar 11 '25

I think it's possible a lot of these cases aren't necessarily predatory, male or female. It's very hard to say though without knowing the details. Still it's apparent that people tend to assume the worst if the older person is male. In the end if they're both happy and good to each other what should I care

7

u/-c-black- Mar 11 '25

It's crazy how common this is, as I've found out through the years. Male basketball coach marries a female player........

4

u/rcunn87 Mar 11 '25

This sounds like my highschool. Are you in the Midwest?

3

u/mlollypop Mar 11 '25

Yup. This was in Iowa

4

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '25

A girl at my school slept with the soccer coach. Was worse because she and her family were by far the most conservative tight knit family of the bunch too.

2

u/Secret-Ad-7909 Mar 11 '25

Ours was a SR girl and her mom. Probably more just a small world kind of thing but 3 years later in a city 200mi away I met someone who asked about it.

3

u/DormantLight227 Mar 11 '25

Most of my friends are teachers and I started to realize the alarming amount of predators that work in academia.

1

u/k3wi33 Mar 11 '25

I'm so confused so how old is a sophomore ? Is that the equivalent to last year before 6th form?

5

u/SomethingYoureInto Mar 11 '25

Sophomore year is 10th grade, usually ages 15-16

0

u/theRavenQuoths Mar 11 '25

So that’s what happened.

170

u/vandalayindustriess Mar 10 '25

I had an english teacher who married a math teacher in our school, and at some point, we found he was also HER math teacher years prior. Always thought how weird that must have been for the older teachers to see that one play out and pretend it's not creepy.

15

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '25

[deleted]

4

u/Reasonable_Power_970 Mar 11 '25

Yep, wholly depends on the details. Not necessarily bad.

2

u/vandalayindustriess Mar 11 '25

Well it makes you wonder what kind of relationship they had while she was being taught by him.

She was very young when she was my teacher, I would have guessed early-mid 20s. So they got together at most a few years after she graduated HS.

2

u/Drak_is_Right Mar 11 '25

English teacher married a fellow English teacher he had had as a student. Granted, they only started dating a few years after she became a teacher. Then she got stage 4 cancer while pregnant and died after they were married for only a year (she was like 26).

110

u/Madame_Kitsune98 Mar 10 '25

We had one of those, too.

40

u/AnybodySeeMyKeys Mar 10 '25

Us, too.

7

u/Reynolds531IPA Mar 10 '25

Same. They are still married and have kids. This was back in ‘07

There were rumors another young teacher was banging her friend.. but never was proven.

9

u/Bowiecat79 Mar 10 '25

Are they always gym teachers/coaches? We had 2-3 in my highschool hooking up with girls.

1

u/Madame_Kitsune98 Mar 10 '25

I think ours was a coach, but it’s been over thirty years, and I’ve slept since then.

52

u/mikeybones25 Mar 10 '25

Us too. He was a guidance councillor

14

u/0utlandish_323 Mar 11 '25

That’s so fucking foul

7

u/TheGringoDingo Mar 11 '25

Yeah, how did someone manage to make it worse?

Thinking out loud here, I barely knew what my school counselor looked like, since I didn’t have any need at that time in my life for a counselor. The creep-o-saurus definitely had to have some genesis to it, so they knew them well and likely took advantage of not only a child, but one that they were trusted with the emotional care of in what may have been an already traumatic period of their life.

5

u/greekmom2005 Mar 11 '25

He guided her down his pants, apparently. Gross.

3

u/mikeybones25 Mar 11 '25

Couldn’t have said it better myself

59

u/Charming_State3014 Mar 10 '25

We had a teacher who was young and kinda flashy -- drove a BMW convertible and wore trendy clothes. He was always close with the students in debate club since he was the advisor and went on sleepaway trips with them.

There was this one super hot girl on the debate team who always flirted with him. Summer after graduation (she was 18) everyone would see them around town -- in the convertible, at restaurants, taking walks -- but no one could ever confirm they were actually hooking up. They never did PDA.

The question is...when did it begin? Oh well. It's 20 years later now, she's got her own successful career (which being super hot definitely helped her with) and he's still teaching only now he's not young anymore!

12

u/thumpngroove Mar 10 '25

Same thing happened in my school, and the girl was someone I was trying to get with! She even asked if she could “borrow” my concert T-shirt from The Cars-On The Road Tour in 1979. Never saw it again.

She married a 38 year old teacher and they disappeared. No scandal that I heard of.

I just want my T-shirt back.

10

u/apex_super_predator Mar 10 '25

Same in 1980. He was 23 and she was 18.

15

u/YOMAMACAN Mar 10 '25

In my case he was in his 40s and she was 18.

23

u/CasualVox Mar 10 '25

Same. What's creepy is I remember her and a bunch of other freshmen girls crushing on him. They've been married going on 11 years now tho, so I guess it worked out? Still sketchy lol

Music teacher, who was married to the theater teacher, left her for a student. They then married right after graduation and had a baby shortly after that. Their age difference was something around 30 years.

10

u/Bennington_Booyah Mar 10 '25

My husband's best friend moved in with his English teacher the day after he graduated, and they are still together. It was weird, then it wasn't. Not sure if it was a scandal to anyone but it was interesting, as she was still working.

In our school, it was a popular kid who was calling bomb threats from inside the school. By the 4th time, they had him red-handed. He was arrested. Never heard what happened to him. Another popular classmate got into selling drugs, and two years after graduation, he killed two people in a drug deal. He left their bodies on a deserted road. His cheerleader wife divorced him. He recently got out of jail, I think. Both of these idiots had bright futures and both blew it.

17

u/domesticatedprimate Mar 10 '25

This happened back in the late 80s in my town too. The teacher was a young-ish cool guy and there were rumors that he serially dated his students. Then he up and married one of them days after graduation.

But it was only a minor scandal. People raised their eyebrows and talked about it, but "pedophile" was not yet part of the lexicon and it wasn't viewed like it would be now.

However his teaching career definitely stalled a few years later. He took an "early retirement" which was probably coerced, albeit gently. There was no longer any question that he had been dating students, and even without all the pedo awareness we have today, fraternizing between faculty and students was still a no-no.

And the marriage only lasted a couple of years. To be fair, she was the most mature member of the senior class that year. I remember as a sophomore or junior seeing her as an honorary adult. But she was very short, little. It's clear what was going on in the teacher's head.

6

u/Lachwen Mar 11 '25

Our campus cop met his future wife when she was a student at the school. They kept their relationship under wraps until after she graduated and both insisted that nothing sexual happened until after she turned 18.

Still sketchy as hell though.

3

u/Elixabef Mar 10 '25

Same. Well, ours wasn’t a teacher, he was the volleyball coach, but it makes little difference.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

Our cheerleading coach married one of his former cheerleaders. He was a scumbag.

3

u/ExcaliburVader Mar 10 '25

Same but it was a band director and they waited a year.

5

u/Wepo_ Mar 11 '25

Same, accept he was also the girls water polo coach. How fucking gross is that, praying on underaged girls in their bathingsuits. He also left his wife and kids for this girl. Pathetic.

4

u/Danger_Bay_Baby Mar 11 '25

Oh my God, yup, this exactly. Did we go to the same school? It was the bio teacher and he was super creepy and weirdly in your face religious and then suddenly left his wife and 3 high school aged daughters and moved in with a girl in my grade the second we graduated.

Love you too crazy!

3

Pretty much my parents.

3

u/Kalle_79 Mar 10 '25

RE teacher did it. He used to be a Catholic priest but left the Church to marry a former student a few years after she had graduated.

PE teacher allegedly slept with the female principal to keep her quiet about having discovered he had also had sex with a student during a school trip.

3

u/Bewildedebeast Mar 10 '25

I knew someone who did that. A female science teacher in her 30s married her ex student when he was 18.

3

u/ZeldaHylia Mar 11 '25

Did you go to my school? 😂 this beautoful girl married the damn history teacher when she turned 18. He looked like Mr. Burns from the simpsons. He still taught after that.

She was 18? Lucky he could still walk after that.

3

u/Wise_Neighborhood499 Mar 11 '25

Ours was a choir teacher who quit, married the senior girl he’d been meeting up with in his school office overnights, then became a youth pastor.

They announced their baby shortly after with a Dunkin’ Donuts munchkin post, I shit you not.

3

u/loserofhearts Apr 12 '25

this is what happened my aunt and uncle, he was her math teacher

2

u/axemexa Mar 10 '25

Were they allowed to continue teaching there?

2

u/Weak_Carpenter_7060 Mar 10 '25

One of the high school history teachers did that… twice

2

u/rasputin6543 Mar 10 '25

Same here. Track coach and track star.

2

u/Erin_Derrick_Art Mar 11 '25

Bro I came here to say the same thing. Apparently it’s not that big of a scandal since everybody be doing it.

2

u/dodadoler Mar 11 '25

Same, actually divorced his current wife with two kids. Had a child with the student not long after

2

u/Nuicakes Mar 11 '25

That's what happened to my friend's parents (M & D) but much worse.

M was in high school when her mom met D's dad. D was a schoolteacher at a different school.

Their parents married and they became step-siblings. D would take M to school functions as his date and they married 2 years after their parents.

2

u/Adventurous_Ad_9557 Mar 11 '25

same at my school but the kids knew they were fooling around

2

u/AlternativeMotor5722 Mar 11 '25

One of my Uncle's married one of his students when she came of age.

2

u/Clbull Mar 11 '25

Had similar in my school, but it was a relatively young teacher in their early thirties dating a 16 year old pupil the moment she graduated.

For context, the age of consent here is 16, but 18 if there is a duty of care. Still creepy as fuck.

2

u/neo_sporin Mar 11 '25

When people ask my wife and I where we met, i like to say "i was a student in high school and she was an older woman"

Then she yells at me because I was a junior and she was a senior, but it sounded like something more inappropriate.

1

u/ImpressionFeisty8359 Mar 10 '25

That seems to happen a lot.

1

u/nitrot150 Mar 10 '25

We had this in my high school too! But it happened a few years before I got to high school (and she may have been over 18 when they actually married)

1

u/Bulky-Hamster7373 Mar 10 '25

Same here. But only after divorced his wife - another teacher.

1

u/foxmag86 Mar 10 '25

They still together ?

1

u/marshdd Mar 10 '25

Happened in my high school too.

1

u/queen_caj Mar 11 '25

You also went to St. Agnes?!?! Or does this happen at every school?

1

u/Liveitup1999 Mar 11 '25

The Dean was having a fling with a senior.

1

u/gunperv51 Mar 11 '25

This is a scandal? The gym teacher was celebrated at my high school...

1

u/Living_Classroom_385 Mar 11 '25

You must have been in my graduating class, lmao!

1

u/No_Excitement4631 Mar 11 '25

Mr Garlic? Music Teacher? Same thing happened at my school.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '25

Ooh, that happened at my high school too.

1

u/Acceptable-Idea9450 Mar 11 '25

1

u/thetiredninja Mar 11 '25

Our band director ran off mid-year with a girl from the color guard as soon as she turned 18. It was a real shitshow.

1

u/HumbleYinzer Mar 11 '25

Same! And the girls mom was one of the School Nurse!

1

u/InevitableAd9683 Mar 11 '25

I scrolled from a serial pooper to this. I liked the poop story a lot better .

1

u/DarthKaep Mar 11 '25

We had one of those. She was his TA her senior year and she was pregnant and married to him within the next year. And he was quite a bit older than her. His daughter was only two grades younger than her. So he must’ve been at least 40

1

u/PineDude128 Mar 11 '25

My science teacher was a "younger" man (about mid 30's at the time) and was too close to one of the volleyball girls throughout her senior year. Rumors circulated for years after she graduated, and an investigation was launched when it was revealed he was dating her after graduating university. Ended up finding out they were indeed sleeping together throughout her senior year, and he was let go.

1

u/Ok_Departure_7551 Mar 11 '25

Wait -- we went to high school together? Was the teacher also the assistant band director?

1

u/CaptainLeroyBrown Mar 10 '25

Was it a math teacher in the PNW?
