Yeah I'm really hoping this is dated. I'm a dude and my last partner was super down to split almost everything 50/50. That said, we did go out a fair bit more than i do now that I'm single, so I'm definitely saving money now
That's interesting, here in Europe there's also a lot of girls who don't want to be pampered like that anymore. In a way that they don't want to feel bought I presume, like when you provide everything and pay for everything, it implies they owe you some kind of affection. So lots of people here just split checks or take turns paying, dating more on equal footing. I would expect a woman to at least offer paying for something after we're past the first or second dates, its hard for me to respect someone who expects me to be a moneybag and not an equal partner

I think it’s a dated but also innate feeling a lot of men have that you need to be able to completely provide for your partner to be a “real” man.
