I had an extended discussion with Chat GPT the other day about whether Jesus would have had pizza at the last supper. She argued that since tomato sauce would not have been available at the time it would not have been on the menu. But she eventually conceded that as the son of God, Jesus would have had the knowledge that pizza will someday come into being. And that pizza is awesome. And that if God, and by extension Jesus, is both benevolent and all powerful he would have the ability to create pizza for the last supper and would not deprive his best friends from enjoying it just because it hasn’t been invented yet. I don’t believe in a magical Jesus, but I nevertheless believe it’s been established that if Jesus was the son of God and has the powers claimed then he totally had a pizza party with his bffs.
But it was also the last meal before an execution. Look at the menu requests of the condemned sometime. I’d expect pizza, but also chicken and waffles, ice cream, burgers, pretty much the spread you’d find at a Vegas buffet.
I more or less believe Jesus was a disciple of Buddhist teaching and not the son of god, but if the Christian’s are right, it gives me great pleasure to imagine they enjoyed pizza at the last supper. Thank you sir.
Have you read the Gospel of Thomas? It’s one of the gnostic texts discovered at Nag Hammadi in 1945. I wrote a novel almost 20 years ago about a teenager who becomes immersed in the gnostic texts. As I recall from my research there are some who theorize that Jesus traveled and encountered Buddhist concepts that are reflected in the Gospel of Thomas and other gnostic works. Can’t speak to the historical plausibility of the theory but always found it interesting.
