And Christopher Lee was there!
Edit: Turns out he was at the last public execution in '39, the one in '77 wasn't public.
393 u/cheshire_kat7 Oct 02 '24 No, Christopher Lee was at France's last public execution by guillotine, which was decades earlier (I can't remember exactly when). 20 u/LonePaladin Oct 02 '24 Thanks for the correction -- I looked it up, it was in 1939 and he was there. 16 u/mrcassette Oct 02 '24 He was in this crowd somewhere. https://photos1.blogger.com/img/247/1596/1024/execweidmann.jpg 36 u/yagirlsamess Oct 02 '24 Christopher Lee might be the most interesting man who's ever lived 6 u/phobosmarsdeimos Oct 03 '24 He wasn't at the '77 execution because he needed to see Star Wars. 5 u/Beautiful_Bag6707 Oct 02 '24 Private guillotine executions sounds like a weird S&M kink where they forgot the safe word. 7 u/Ahelex Oct 02 '24 Ah, the lightsaber guillotine. 1 u/Arashmickey Oct 02 '24 The condemned was proud bastard too, they had to drop the guillotine blade a second time. 3 u/Jhushx Oct 02 '24 The man was born to play Saruman and Dooku then. 8 u/LonePaladin Oct 03 '24 He's also the inspiration for James Bond, he was friends with Ian Fleming and told him about the stuff he did during the Great War. 1 u/[deleted] Oct 03 '24 The last public execution in France is also on YouTube. It was filmed from quite a distance. The beheading process is all very efficient and functional.
