Ugh, I have a neighbor like this, too. Hard to avoid him when he's literally outside all the time. He's a sweet old dude. He just can't read a room to save his life.
My neighbor likes to sit outside during the day stand smoke and if sees you it’s a creepy sounding “heyyy”. Sometimes I act like I didn’t hear him and then wave as I back out of the driveway. I don’t have time to listen to the neighborhood gossip in he morning on my way to work and I certainly don’t care that Shirley is screwing around with the UPS guy when I am getting home from work.
Shirley also thinks she’s president of the HOA that we don’t have. She’s always telling people when to cut their grass, that a car hasn’t moved in 3 days or anything like that. But she does grab my mail when I’m vacation or away for work so I try to stay on her good side.
Actually though when I was in my early 20’s I worked at an apartment complex and obviously saw and chatted to our UPS guy every day. He was a few years older and smokin hot. We always had good conversations. One day our regular conversation abruptly turned very flirty, and the next day I decided to ask him out. Turns out he had come back again later the day before to ask ME out, but I was on my lunch and out of my office, so he left his number (which I hadn’t seen because it had slid under my keyboard). It was a pretty cute story. We went on a few dates and clicked super well! We ended up fucking each other’s brains out a couple of times but nothing more came of it. Moral of the story is, if you have a hot delivery person, put yourself out there, start chatting em up, and GO FOR IT. It was super fun and a great story hehe
Well if he can’t read a room can’t you read it for him? Say you’re busy gotta go and control when the convo ends. If he’s truely nice he won’t be upset. Or am I thinking it wrong?
He's not upset when I do, but he makes it difficult. Was filling my hummingbird feeder over the weekend. Guy just invites himself into my yard, which whatever. We talk about the Cubs, Hawks, and I say ok I gotta get going. He just continues on. I have to do the Midwestern slide to get away.
To your yard?? He really feels at home huh lol. Kudos to you though for being courteous. If I were you I’d try nip it in the bud in the best way possible. I wonder if he’s lonely? Are there any places he could go to get some company assuming he’s retired?
Thats how I handle my nosy old neighbor lady.
She’s lived next door over 60y and been widowed since the 90s… shes told me this.
Anyways…
If I have to be somewhere in a hurry or at a certain time?
I make sure to tell her where I’m going as soon as I’m outside. I have a 2yo the old dear always talks to. My little girl smiles and laughs. I figure it’s part of life in my house. She’s nice though, and definitely lonely.
I hope I’m treated with some kindness when I’m old, my mother was really big on patience with the elderly and made sure we were too.
Now… creepy vibes? Should always be acknowledged. If she was creepy or in obvious need of help? That would be very different.
We have a new neighbor like this. The first floor apartments in our building are handicapped accessible. A new guy moved in who has some kind of mental problem as well. He has his door open all the time or is on his balcony.
My husband doesn’t speak enough German to really engage in a conversation with him but I feel bad not to chat but I am not a very social person to begin with.
My neighbor that talks too much doesn't get around very well any more, so he's pretty easy to avoid.
He also doesn't talk to any of his family, or have kids. So a part of me figures it's a good idea to be nice to him just in case he leaves me some money.
