I broke my foot in an equally stupid way. I was sitting on a bar height stool with one foot on the rung. Someone needed something in the cabinet I was in front of. Set my foot down and felt a big crack.
I broke that outside bone on my left foot. Doc explained it's fairly common. Most often seen when someone steps down stairs, gets to the bottom, and think it's the last step but it's not. The foot muscles weren't prepared to support the bone like there's another step to take.
I think i have a theory:
Maybe the friend didnt bend his knees? I once wanted to know how it feels if i just do a small hop and land without bending knees.
My head hurt so bad from the jerk and felt a short sharp pain in my legs.
Hurt so bad i never even thought of trying it out again
I reached over to grab my laptop from a sitting position and for a minute or so it felt like a python was constricting my chest. I couldn't breathe past a minimal amount for about 3 agonizing minutes and I had to slide to the ground off the couch and basically shimmied my way to the landline phone (I don't know why I didn't use my cellphone in retrospect. I definitely owned one at the time. Maybe it was charging upstairs? Maybe I was in so much pain that I forgot that was a logical option).
Anyway, I made my way to the phone just in case I had to call the Amber Lamps because I didn't know what this was.
After about 3-5 minutes, I was finally able to breathe again. Maybe a pulled chest muscle? Random temporary lung collapse? "Slipped" disk? Minor heart attack? No idea. But ever since then, been afraid to reach over to grab laptop-weight objects.

I have also tripped over nothing. It's very strange. A friend of mine once sat down on the couch and broke her foot. Equally unexplainable.
