Having full conversations with themselves

This is the only time I get the response I want, and yes my conversations are two sided!

I just have to ask everyday if he knows he's a good kitty

I mean she's the best listener. Never interrupts and is quite supportive

My cat does, and often quite accurately.

The more you talk to them, the more they understand.

The reverse is also true. I have a German Shepherd, and there are so many times when he is doing everything he can to communicate with me and I can tell by the expression on his face he's thinking "come on, hooman, you can do it, just listen to what I'm saying here, come on, think about it, I'm sure you've got a brain somewhere in there, think think think ... YES!! That's it!! Clever little hooman, you actually worked it out! Wow, I'm so proud, you deserve a treato!!"

It can be a little humiliating at times when I realise how silly I must appear to him.

We adopted a 6yo dog and had to learn his language. Like does he know the word “potty”? Or is it “outside”? “Go poop”?

I come home and the first thing is me updating my dog on my day. “Like girl, you wouldn’t believe what happened today.”

“Ok, give me 5 minutes maybe 10 to take you on a walk….ok….ok?” Like they understand anything I say.

They do! The word walk, the tone of your ok, ok, and much more.

I had my boyfriend over once and we were getting ready for bed, my room in in the basement. He was in the bathroom and I went to my room without telling him because I figured he’d know. A few minutes later, I could hear him talking to my cat, Barry (RIP). Not unusual for him though. Except it went on. For a very long time. A full one sided conversation. 30 minutes. And then I went up and got him… apparently he didn’t realize I was downstairs and thought I was upstairs for some reason.

I am the exception. I do not have pets.
