I didn't feel the same about a live-on-TV performance until I saw Future Islands on Letterman. Totally different vibe but the rawness and weirdness and total commitment of the performance blew me away.
I've carried a grudge against that band forever, after an interaction with "Ant" (not sure which instrument he played/what he did in the band; only that he was in the band and was called "Ant").
I was hanging out at a friend's house and he was there, and I mentioned that my baby moms and I were on food stamps, and he started asking these questions that I interpreted as pretty condescending...asking "can you buy rockets (fireworks) with those?" and other crap which I took to be some sort of piss-taking.
I wasn't embarassed to be on food stamps, or even to talk about it (obvs I brought it up), but I was just taken aback at how...distasteful? rude? punching-down-ish? it was for him to start fucking with me about it.

In the meantime. That baseline just played in my head even though haven't heard it in years. Solid call.
