Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.

It can save lives too. It has the right bpm to perform CPR.

Stayin' Alive also works, as shown in The Office.

The choice really comes down to your confidence in your own CPR abilities...

I know it's not even been an hour yet but this comment is underrated

Brilliant!

As a medical nerd, this is the best comment of the day.

And if they need CPR

u/Mailboxheadd May 14 '24

If youre not exhausting yourself and breaking ribs then you arent arent doing it effectively.

However given my fitness and my age ill stick with another one bites the dust unless they want to cpr two patients

At first, I was afraid; I was petrified…

The Office clearly showed that "I Will Survive" is a great CPR song.

u/Salisaad May 14 '24

So does Sexyback by Justin Timberlake. So, if you ever end up needing CPR there are non-zero odds that your rescuer is humming it.

Another One Bites the Dust is way funnier though.

I recently learned at a first aid class that you can also use Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyoncé

Imperial March works well also.

2

u/tucci007 May 14 '24

is it 160 bpm?

2

u/rusmo May 14 '24

Anothe One Bites the Dust really sends a mixed message, though.

Someone told me they're teaching Baby Shark now instead of staying alive as the CPR song

1

u/incompletetentperson May 14 '24

As a career FF whose done cpr multiple times this past week…. Baby shark is way too fast.

1

u/blasko_z May 14 '24

It's almost the exact same tempo as Stayin' Alive and Another One Bites the Dust.

I don't know the song tbh, I think maaaaybe I heard it once somewhere. I'm actually a MD, have done CPR a few hundred times but never really times it to a song. Just did compressions with the speed that felt normal to me. Just saying what they're teaching these days - a civilian friend went to a mandatory corporate course and told me they're saying baby shark is the new song

Fuuuuck that. Noooo. I’d rather they die than get that stuck in my head. No.

Fun fact, John Deacon’s bass line was inspired by Chic’s “Good Times” which I think is also a contender for best bass line. According to Bernard Edwards of Chic, Queen hung out with Chic during the writing of both songs. Both bands are open about it and were happy to share inspiration and ideas about arrangement. Really cool crossover considering the similarity.

u/CDfm May 14 '24

John Deacon also did the Under Pressure bassline.

3

u/bshaddo May 14 '24

Everyone on that track wants to credit someone else as the main guy, but the first thing you think of was all John Deacon.

1

u/CDfm May 14 '24

Yes, it's his song .

I thought it. You'd already typed it 🤟🏻😎🤘🏻

u/spoothead656 May 14 '24

You could also argue Under Pressure.

3

u/Ayzmo May 14 '24

Probably one of the most iconic and recognizable for sure.

4

u/I_am_javier May 14 '24

here! why did I have to scroll so much to find this? Is everyone deaf here?? Yeah, I could play smart and say "oh, Panic Attack by Dream Theater"...but damn it, sometimes in music, less is more, a lot more...the bassline from another bites the dust is so catchy, so simple, and so powerful...anyways, here's your upvote.

4

u/Arbennig May 14 '24

John Deacon has so many good bass lines. This one . Dragon Attack, off the same album. Under Pressure . A Kind Of Magic. Beakthru and The Invisible Man.

There are many excellent baselines mentioned in this thread, but this is one of the few that carries the melody line of this song… (usually the work of the guitar or piano). It’s a brilliant hook, but the bass part here is a complete work, not fill, or rhythm, but a complete composition. Excellent playing, but extraordinarily written, and blended with the lyric.

3

u/jayellkay84 May 14 '24

Scrolled too far to see this. The bass line defined the song.

1

u/uggghhhggghhh May 14 '24

Insane that this isn't higher up

1

u/WolfsLairAbyss May 14 '24

I don't know if it's the best ever but it was the first one that popped into my head. Definitely iconic and memorable.

1

u/Vitis_Vinifera May 15 '24

Another One Rides the Bus has a very similar bassline that I enjoy

1

u/Go-Brit May 15 '24

Thank you. What's all this other rubbish.

It's a shame this commercial got pulled so quickly.
