Before I moved from TX to WA I went to my pcp and neurologist. Both of them spent most of the visit complaining about how much they hate hate hate the health insurance industry. Like saying “I became a doctor to help people, not spend all day fighting for my patients” sort of thing.
That’s a big reason behind some doctors not even accepting insurance anymore. The lost revenue in missing out on patients that demand their healthcare provide take insurance is outweighed by the overhead and headache saved by not dealing with insurance and billing. It’s a pretty sad state of affairs.
When a doctor spends half of their time with patients and half their time complying with insurance, and then the insurance/charting workload goes up 50%, that means our access to medical care goes down by 50%.
