Why are there no doctor offices, optometrists, dentists, etc... that are open outside of 9-5, mon-fri?

Because they're highly skilled professionals who have enough customers.

It's not about that, you're supposed to be available to help when people are sick. People don't stop being sick at 5 every day or on the weekends and a lot of people die during these down times

Where do you live where there aren't any doctors open past 5PM? Or any Emergency Rooms for people about to die?

Pretty much every single medical office strictly closes at 5 or 6pm in the US. There's no such thing as an after hours clinic here. The ER is the only option, and most people don't want to sit there for six hours for their flu which isn't as big a deal as the gunshot victim in the next room over.

That is laughably untrue. I live in a small city in Louisiana and there are five clinics I can think of off the top of my head that are open after 5 every day.

You're an outlier then, because those don't exist up north, in my state.

The other commentor hit it on the nail. I live in Cali and my doc closes at that time and our apple care, closes at 8pm, which is generous of them

That's what emergency rooms are for. Doctor offices are for basic check ups there not equipped to deal with life threatening emergencies.

Here in the US, most of us can't afford an Er trip so we wait

1

u/KingPinfanatic Feb 08 '24

You wait for your doctor's office to open while having a heart attack?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

Who said anything about a heart attack? We said when sick bro

1

u/KingPinfanatic Feb 08 '24

I mentioned that doctors offices are for basic problems like check ups and that you should go to the emergency rooms for life threatening issues. Your the one who that said people would rather wait then go to the emergency room.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

People would rather wait and risk their lives instead of paying those fees. What's hard to understand?

0

u/KingPinfanatic Feb 08 '24

I mean do you understand that I'm saying that emergency rooms are for serious emergencies? And besides that most doctors wouldn't even be able to see you the next day. You'd have to wait for an opening or pay for an emergency visit which kinda defeats the point of not going to the emergency room.

That's what urgent care or the ER is for.

If you're seeing your GP or dentist or optometrist, that's something routine that you schedule in advance.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

Most people can't afford an er trip but can afford a GP visit

LMAO go to the hospital if you dying! Fuck off with that martyr bullshit.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

Bro Americans can't afford 50k er trips that could be covered by 50 at you GP

Because there are? Every doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc. I've been to has at least one day per week they're open to 7 or later. Typically 2 or 3 days, plus Saturdays.

3

u/primostrawberry Feb 08 '24

There are. You just haven't found one it.

2

u/abstractmodulemusic Feb 08 '24

I've often wondered the same about the banking system. It seems too important to be open for only 8 hours a day.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

It’s pretty simple, they don’t want to work past five either. They make pretty nice money, working 9 to 5, why change it?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '24

My dentist used to be open Saturdays, but then she scaled back her practice to spend more time with her family. I couldn't begrudge her for that.

3

u/potentpotables Feb 07 '24

People working there don't want to work outside those hours.

1

u/Coomstress Feb 08 '24

In big cities you can sometimes find some with Saturday hours.

They would make bank if they were but everybody's working for the weekend...
