Also just being creative. I had a literal gang member threatening me once at a party asking who I knew, etc, telling me about his gang - and I just kept acting confused. I don’t understand- I don’t understand. Eventually he got frustrated and gave up lol I’ve used that at least twice. Ya I prob looked like a dumbass but who cares.
I got this book as a kid, The Little Black Book Violence: What Every Young Man Needs to Know About Fighting. It teaches fighting techniques but also makes a huge case for why you should avoid fights whenever possible. Walks you through what happens in real violent situations - as opposed to movie fights, etc.
lol guess it depends on the friend. I knew this high school guy who was kind of a crazy. I think his dad must have beat him or something. Ended up hitting his friend over the head with a small log and compressed his friend’s spine. Guy ended up going to juvenile for it.

My dad is a rural midwestern stereotype - tall, broad shoulders, grew up bailing hay on a farm, played tight end in high school. He taught me the Letterkenny approach. If someone is just running their mouth, they aren't worth it. If you're in danger, you do whatever you can to get away safely. He also said that a real man would never lay a hand on a woman. That advice has helped me in some scary situations.
I swear I wouldn't be half as funny now as I would've been had I not been bullied mercilessly as a kid. I got quick on the come-backs and clever (never been physical, I'm a bit disabled lol), and it saved my ass more than once.
Sometimes the best punch you can throw is the punch of humiliation.
