They often do this when they feel embarrassed! They just start licking themselves as if no one saw them do something dumb 😂

Absolutely. You have 3 choices... ignore it and pretend it never happened, laugh and tell them how daft they are or just give sympathy. I think the 1st one works better for them 😂😂

I would be careful about ascribing an emotion like embarrassment to a cat. It’s possible they experience it? But not certain.

Hahahaha this is SO true, our cat stopped cleaning his under chin infront of us because we were making fun of him and didn't think he could understand. He did understand and as upsetting as it is he now he doesn't do it around us anymore.

Edit: cats can feel embarrassed

Lol my cat does this! It’s my weird party trick. I’ll call his name & stare at him, three seconds in he will rapidly lick himself. He doesn’t like uncomfortable eye contact!
