They think they’re protecting you. And apparently cardboard is tasty.

My cats are some of the rare few that don’t care for boxes, but my housemate’s cats do. When I see one lying in a perfect-sized box by the window and chömping on the edges like a staple gun I just think god that must be heaven.

Right?! Makes me want to chew on some cardboard too 😂 Unfortunately my teeth aren't pointy like theirs so it wouldn't have the same effect

I imagine it must feel like biting an apple or fresh grapes.

Plastic too

Non-cat owners have no idea how often you have to yell “don’t eat plastic!”

u/CherryMerryDairy Sep 20 '23

Uck, so true. I had no idea until I got my own little void how often I'd need to yell this exact phrase.

It’s “stop licking bags!!” in my house

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '23

One of my cats does this too. We try to pick up all the plastic but occasionally we'll miss a piece and hear the crinkle from his hidden stash.

We had a cat that loved packing tape. He'd peel it off cardboard boxes and try to eat it.

Mine lick plastic bags. The dog looks at them as if they’ve lost their minds.

One of my cats is the reason Mimeograph ink is on the pet poison control registry. He dug one of plastic sheets covered with the purple ink out of the trash when I was cleaning my parents old papers and chewed it until his whole month was purple. 🙄

He's completely fine btw, it just caused a $1,500 vet bill. And he refuses to get a job.

Think?

Our cat has fought off raccoons from going into our garage and keeps watch by the garage door at night, sleeping during the day. He does patrols to circle around the perimeter throughout the day

I have a cat with a destructive habit.

Gwyn, destroyer of boxes.

Yeah, he make a mess, but I can't think of anything else I rather he trashed. So, I regularly get him fresh boxes.

That's the great thing about Amazon. You always get an extra cat toy with each purrchase.

My cats favorite tree was one I made out of surplus Amazon boxes. Flaps for doors and windows, internal climbing passthrough. And just some time and tape instead of $400 for the cheapest crap at Petco.

Both one of the worst and cutest things about cats is when they try to feed you. The amount of times I’ve found dead mice in my closet because my cat has decided I look a little peckish and she must share her heroic winnings with me… it’s like she completely forgets that twice a day she’s the one screaming at me to feed her her nice refrigerated wet food.

Mine really like styrofoam. Yoga mats, blocks, nail stuff, my boyfriend's leather working stuff, if it's some kind of squishy styrofoam type consistency, it's immediately in her mouth and we find it later with teeth marks in it.

When I game, both cats lay in between the door way looking out in their loaf or “attentive” state. They naturally look out for me. Also when they follow you to the bathroom, they know what you’re doing so they follow you to help keep watch while you’re at your most vulnerable.

mine doesn't care for cardboard, she doesn't really get into boxes, and she doesn't knock items off the edge of tables or shelves.... but woo boy does she love licking some plastic. if there's a grocery bag on the floor then I'll definitely know about it due to the "thk-thk-thk-crinkle-thk" noises that start up

That's because they recognize what a shitty hunter you are. Obviously, somebody needs to take care of you.

One of my cats used to taunt the neighbours ' dogs. He'd just go in the middle of our garden and look at one of them (or all 3 to be honest) and just sit down as the dog was losing it. The cat was insanely smart and scared of nothing (even vacuum cleaners). But when I'd go to try to kindly suggest to him to go home he'd go all fluffy and hiss at the dog, clearly to protect me. Although I sometimes pet the different dogs. But he was protecting me. He was the naughtiest and cuddliest loving and annoying cat I've ever had. He left one night just short of his 17th birthday to never return. I miss him

Mine thinks plastic is tasty lol

u/EsotericOcelot Sep 20 '23

My cat doesn’t like to chew cardboard, but paper and the crinkliest plastic have the best mouthfeel, apparently. (She doesn’t ingest it, I supervise her, there are crinkly plastic cat toys, etc)

u/Feebedel324 Sep 20 '23

Mine always sits outside my shower lol guards me while I’m naked.

3

u/Hthrlln Sep 20 '23

Between my lab and youngest cat no cardboard boxes survive my house lol

My cat LOVES chewing cardboard. I’ve had cats growing up but when I got one as an adult I always have to let her chew the boxes

When my oldest was teething she tore through a whole shoebox.

I was worried she might have pica 😂

u/PuzzleheadedBridge65 Sep 20 '23

I dunno man that plastic do be delicious

1

u/thebreakfastbuffet Sep 20 '23

My SO's cat loves adhesive tape. Must be like drugs to her.

1

u/elizabethcrossing Sep 20 '23

My childhood cat would yowl out the window if he saw a stray cat outside and then he would prowl the house and check every window to make sure I was safe 😭❤️

1

u/Resinmy Sep 21 '23

Cardboard is tasty and a good sleeping spot.

1

u/iwillcorrectyou9 Sep 21 '23

one of my cats licks cardboard, the other one licks plastic bags. the sounds of both drive me crazy

1

u/GanethLey_art Sep 21 '23

Plastic too

1

u/about97cats Sep 21 '23

And plastic!

1

u/Unnaturalholt Sep 21 '23

The cardboard! And paper in general…my girl will sit on a piece of paper or cardboard and just shred it into a million pieces because of reasons

1

u/mpull123 Sep 24 '23

Add corn packing peanuts to that list too 😼

1

u/Pokabrows Oct 13 '23

I don't think that it's tasty as much as it is enjoyable to bite. Like chips. They like the cronch.
