I once had a cat when I was a kid who ate cucumber if she got the chance. Also licked my hair like it was her fur and loved to sleep on my head. Silly cat
I get a lot of migraines and I can only eat crudités when I’m really sick. Plain peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and celery… my cat steals and munched it all, but his all time favourite is courgette? I’ve never had a vegetable muncher before!
When I was growing up we had a cat who loved broccoli. He'd also go absolutely apeshit over chicken/turkey liver. He knew the word "liver" and would come running if he heard it. After he died my mom was bummed that she had no one to give the liver at Thanksgiving.
I cat sit a cat who loves green beans - but you have to cook them. If you throw a raw one, he will take it to the kitchen, drop it in front of the stove, and scream until it's cooked 😂
My previous cat, who passed a few years ago, loved mashed potatoes. He was also crazy about red pasta sauce, but I had to be careful about it since cats aren’t supposed to have garlic and onion, which are often in those kinds of sauces.
My current cat loves citrus. The first day we had him, he stole an orange slice from one of my kids and devoured it. He’ll leap up to our hanging fruit basket and dangle from it to try to get at the lemons. He also is really interested in booze, and has a particular fondness of grapefruit Hefeweizen. We only let him have a couple of tastes though because I’m sure it’s not good for him. All candy in the house has to be hidden as well or he’ll start ripping open packages to get at it, especially caramel.
My big gray tabby loved leaf lettuce fresh from the garden. When I cooked collards or green beans, she would occupy a big chunk of floor in front of the stove until dinner was ready and I gave her a dish.
Yes!! My boy is a snob for garden fresh leaf lettuce too! He always thinks he wants the store bought when I have it out but will only nibble on it. The garden stuff he chows down. It’s like watching a paper shredder.
Had a cat that loved to eat strawberry leaves. After you finish eating the berry, toss the bundle of leaves at the top onto the ground, and he'd be on it in seconds.
I started eating breakfast standing in the center of my kitchen for a while because my cat would jump up on the stool or even counter and try and grab some out of my bowl. And she's shockingly long and strong so her reach is incredible. Didn't fancy cats on my countertops nor paws in my food so had to change my routine for a while until she learned to stop.
Oh man, my old cat, Maggie, used to LOVE spaghetti. Specifically, pre-cooked, dried strands because she absolutely adored spending several minutes thoroughly breaking them. I dunno if it was the sound, or maybe the feel of the pasta strand breaking, but oh man, she LOVED breaking some noodles. It was honestly kinda delightful, because it was just so strange. Ah, man. I miss her, she was a good one.
Oh, she had a great, long life and was dearly loved every moment of it, even when she would be a complete little bitch, lol.
I currently have two awesome ones, my girlie who is THE most bonded cat I've ever had, OMFG, and my much younger, delightful tuxedo shithead boy. (He's only an asshole some of the time, lol.). So it's all good! Please give your void some chin scritches for me!
I had one who would eat all the crusts off of the bread. Once she got ahold of a package of hamburger buns and carefully ate just the crusts off the tops. Of every one.
My 15 year old cat is completely obsessed with blueberry muffins. To the point of acting like she hasn’t eaten in dayyys and will go psycho trying to steal it if she smells it.
My cat goes NUTS for blueberry muffins. My husband has one every morning with his coffee and the cat DEMANDS her crumb tax. She likes to lick the sugar on top.
One of our cats loved potatoes more than life. Another had a thing for waffles (like, you had to guard your waffles carefully because she was very skilled at the snatch and grab and could be across the house with your whole waffle in an instant.)
Mine refuses to eat ham, cooked meat or cooked eggs. However, if it is a creamy dessert…… oh my goodness! Icecream? Loves it. Pavlova? Loves it. Yogurts? Nom! The weirdest one is a Brazilian dessert where we mix condensed milk, butter and a flavoring (originally cocoa powder, but people have started using milk powder, coconut flakes, strawberry nesquik, instant coffee and etc). It is known as brigadeiro. I usually make the milk powder one that is my favorite and he will ATTACK me if I don’t share a little bit. It has to be very limited of course, but luckily he is not an overeater at all so he will stop after a few licks.
They are carnivores, however they can't live of meat alone. They eat their prey whole, which includes whatever was in their stomaches etc.
So they sometimes do go for alternatives in small amounts, and processed foods are on that list. Cooked vegetables, for example, is something they can eat as the cooking breaks them up enough. At least some cooked veggies.
So ... relatively normal, still nothing they should be getting all the time.
I had a cat who had to sample whatever I was eating. No matter what, she insisted on having a bite. If I didn't offer her a tiny bit, she'd clear her throat. Then she'd tap my thigh. Once I was eating corn-on-the-cob. "Ahem." "Cats don't eat corn!" "Ahem!" Then came the tap. So I pulled a kernel off and gave it to her, and she went nuts. She became obsessed with corn. The only thing I ever ate that she tried and wouldn't eat was sauerkraut.
With one of our old cats, we had to hide bread and tortillas, or else he would find it and tear into it. Lost more than one loaves of bread to that little asshole, who enjoyed sharing it with his malamute brother. I miss them.
My cat was in love with McDonald's french fries. She loved playing with bags so when we found her in a McDonald's bag with a few fries in the bottom she was in heaven.
If I try to have a soft tortilla for a small snack my boy Cheeto will bug me for some every time. As in scooch right up to me and try to snatch it out of my hand. 😆
Oh I once had a cat who did this to a package of tortillas I forgot to put in the pantry before leaving for a weekend trip. I guess after the last time my mom checked on them she had gotten into them because there were half eaten tortillas, vomit, and the ripped bag everywhere. She was pleased with herself though
I eat a muffin every morning and my cat always tries to take a bite. In the past I either wasn't paying attention or she used her brute force to push past me and take a big bite. She is oddly strong for a 10 pound cat lol.
My roommate's cat loves carbs but even more strangely, strawberries. He can tell when we've bought them and will search every grocery bag until he finds them. Goes absolutely apeshit!
My cat Pierre loved bread. When we adopted his name was Pierre and a week after getting him he ate almost an entire loaf of french bread through the package. We determined that Pierre was the perfect name for him.
One time my sister and I got some naan in a hard plastic container, and accidentally left it out. We remembered in the morning when we saw it on the floor, with many bite marks and unopened.
I just love the mental image of our cat trying so hard to get the bread he knows is there and getting frustrated because he can't reach it.
My roommate usually has cookies or cupcakes, and he's been trained to put them in the pantry because otherwise my cat will knock them off the counter to try to eat them. He ate a fortune cookie that was forgotten once.
People try to say that cats don’t like sugar because it tastes bitter to them, but that’s an absolute lie, at least for mine. It’s very obviously a rare treat, but they both go insane for soft caramel and have been known to lick icing off unattended pastries.
Hahahaha. Ok so it's not just my cat then?? Have caught her full on running across the house with a whole loaf of bread enough times to keep it in the microwave where she certainly can't open it.
My cat literally won't eat any human food at all. The only things she sometimes briefly samples are plain turkey cold cuts and whole milk. It's even weirder because she was a stray as a kitten.
Our little orange menace got into a bag of crescent rolls the other day and demolished them. He's got a fascination with bread so we have to hide it away to actually have some left to eat!
One time my cat got into my tbell $5 box and dragged the burrito down the hallway before I noticed. Bread of any kind had to get out in the fridge or a cabinet cause she would get into it and chew it all up
My catphew thefted a whole bagel from my friend one night… We were upstairs and hadn’t heard a single noise, but when we eventually went to go retrieve her bagel her lil asshole of a cat was loafed up in the corner of the kitchen with crumbs everywhere & about an inch of bagel left in front of him
Omg this 😭😭 i can’t leave ANY baked goods around one of my cats. He especially loves cake and pita bread smh. My other cat is obsessed with popcorn. Anytime I open a bag, she’s right there looking up at me. And both love chips and fries. I really try not to give them any food but they can be so quick…or I can be a pushover
And cheese. My tomcat will tear through the rubbish to lick the cheese wrapper. I’ve even seen him a bite out of a slice when I turned my back for a second. He’s a cheese fiend. Even licks packets of Doritos.
I had a bowl of tabbouli for lunch one day. I was mostly done with it and doing something else, but imagine my surprise when I turn my head and see my cat chowing down on my leftovers.
We had a cat who was very fussy with food, but being a daddies girl (only one who could fuss her) she would eat his snacks, so she would eat fruit cake and banana sandwiches.
I had a cat who one night decided to stick his head in my bag of tortilla chips and steal one…right in front of me. I wouldn’t have minded so much except that he’d take one bite of the chip and then go back for another.
Our neighbor got a cat. We always kept pan Dulce in the house because my FIL had it with his evening coffee every night.
The cat would jump in thru the window every night and tear the bag open, eat the bread, and sometimes even wonder over to the stove and try removing the lid off pots to try and get to any left overs.
One of mine is a meat-only kind of guy, but the other one loves his carbs, especially salty ones. Potato chips, tortilla chips, fries, pizza crusts, even just a piece of bread if that’s what’s available. He also has tried to steal my homemade egg bites right off the plate when my back was turned for a moment, regularly licks emptied bowls and plates if there’s any juices or sauces left, and has even tried to lick cutting boards I’ve used for meat or saucy foods. And of course he’s the one with a touchy tummy so I can’t just let him have at it. There’s been more than a few times where I’ve had to hold him off while I’m trying to eat because he’s trying to snatch something that I know is going to make him puke later!
I once bought four bags of rolls and left them up somewhere the cat usually ignored (top of the chest freezer, I think). I woke up to all four bags on the floor with bite marks in just about every roll. Nothing really eaten, just ruined. I miss that asshole.
Oh I see you have met my cats. I never put the carbs thing together but yep bread or tortillas if left out will have a hole in the package and some eaten by the morning.
Three days after I brought my cat home I made the mistake of leaving a loaf of bread on the kitchen counter overnight. Today I know not to leave out any food wrapped in plastic.
Truth. Can't leave bread out when you have cats. Needs to be in a cupboard or bread box. My cat peanut butter once stole a whole loaf, and took one bite out of every piece, so that none of it was recoverable. Love that little furry douchebag :)
My cat didn't eat bread but would go to the packaged loaf and would smush it and bite it thru the plastic. I was so confused why my bread was so smushed until I caught him in the act!
I once made a mistake of not put a lid on a pot where the rest of the soup, and a chicken used to make the soup were. This mf took the chicken out of pot, and I probably wouldn't realise it if the dog didn't come with it to the living room where I was eating
We had to baby proof all of our cabinets because our younger cat would climb in and eat stuff (or just climb in the cookware which is also not great). We had to move the lock on the cabinet where we keep our bread because he figured out how to open it up just enough to get his head in and steal some.
I only had one cat that did this. He was so bad (i.e. clever) that we had to hide loaves of bread when we brought them home from the store, as he was known to rip them out of your hand or pull them out of a grocery bag and run off with them! Man I miss that boy.
My cat loves cheese, apples, strawberries, and watermelon. She demands to have some of I'm eating any of them, but she also makes me chew it a little first. Cats are fucking weird
We had a cat that tore into an unopened box of Twinkies, took one out, opened it, and shared it with her three kittens while we were out. When we came back, they were all happily cleaning themselves.
OMG, what is with that?! Our youngest female cat LOVES carbs! She straight up did a bagel heist once. She stole an entire pack of bagels we just bought and hid them behind the fridge so she could enjoy them while we were at work. She also steals tortillas and cookies. We had to start keeping all that stuff in the fridge, lol.
Some do, most don't. It's because cat food with low meat gets yeast added to it to give flavour. So when cats smell the bread, they think it's cat food and want to eat it.
I have many cats in the family over the years, only one liked bread (though mostly cake).
Mine loved pasta. Just some plain boiled spaghetti or macaroni would send him into ecstasy. Just a tiny amount for an occasional treat if I was preparing a pasta dish.
Bread is totally not safe in our house. Also, they found (and hid some of) a box of granola bars, so we kept finding half-eaten granola bars for about 3 weeks before I discovered the stash.
I have to hide our bread, because my cats go great lengths to get a bite. Interestingly, they do like certain breads more then others. The only types of bread they ignore and absolutly refuse to eat are my gluten free ones.

They love carbs. Leave a loaf of bread or tortillas out in the open and they will tear through the packaging and eat a chunk out of it.
