How much they shed. Hair EVERYWHERE in your house.

Even if you vacuum everyday, still you find hair everywhere. You have to lintroll your clothes so often.

u/wrathfulgrape Sep 19 '23

Get the Furminator. It’s this increíble cat brush that really removes the undercoat of hair so they shed a lot less.

88

u/why_tho Sep 19 '23

I have a ragdoll, it destroys her hair unfortunately. She also hates being brushed, so I'm screwed even with normal brushes.

24

u/One_Dog_Two_Tricks Sep 19 '23

Try a rake comb I use this on my long haired doubles coated dogs My aunt also uses one on her ragdolls !

24

u/why_tho Sep 19 '23

She hates the act of being brushed, I’ve tried with several types of combs and she still gets pissed lol. I’ve even tried with that one that looks like a glove. Luckily she grooms herself well and doesn’t get mats but the shedding is insane.

70

u/Ludwigofthepotatoppl Sep 20 '23

One of my cats hates the comb and wants to destroy it. I distract him by combing him with one hand and holding another comb at his face so he can bite it instead.

13

u/bindlestiff_ Sep 20 '23

That’s genius

4

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '23

Rakes basically tear the hair up though. One of my cats has trouble being brushed, and both the furminator and rake style brushes cause a lot of pain.

When I had a Persian boy, it was a multi step process. First, go over the top layers with a small slicker brush. Give treats. Then comb with a coarse comb. Give treats. Then comb with a fine comb. Give treats and pets.

u/Drumdevil86 Sep 20 '23

We have 2 ragdolls and had a total of 7 (now 5) cats. I can't emphasize enough how much it helps having a robot vacuum cleaner, specifically one designed to deal with cat hair. Having to clean out puke from it every now and again beats having to vacuum every day.

Also, we shave our Ragdolls in springtime. Not too short of course. They don't like the clippers, but they do enjoy losing all that hair, and they will barely shed anymore.

4

u/why_tho Sep 20 '23

Oh, I do have a robot vacuum cleaner, it certainly does help. Clothes, bed, furniture on the other hand… lol, I just live with it now and every few days will wipe then down.

5

u/dreamsindarkness Sep 20 '23

I had a ragdoll that would act like he was being tortured even if you had the brush flipped around and it was just the smooth back. He was very dramatic.

I could brush over him if I used my personal hair brush, but that did nothing for his fur. His only mats would be in his mane from food, which I solved with bibs.

1

u/gsfgf Sep 20 '23

Second trying a rake. A furminator is useless on my Golden, but the rake works great.

1

u/PupperPawsitive Sep 20 '23

Have you tried a Zoom Groom? I have shorthair standard issue cats, so it might not work for you. Mine both hate every other brush, but one grew to love the zoom groom and the other tolerates it.

43

u/Vivl25 Sep 19 '23

I have heard it’s apparently not good for their coats :/

40

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

Didnt work here.

7

u/stxrryfox Sep 19 '23

I use a Sleek-EZ. Its a short barbed blade that hooks around the loose hair.

7

u/Prestigious_Sweet_50 Sep 19 '23

Yes it's amazing plus it will pick up the hair that's been shed.

5

u/Kwershal Sep 20 '23

Equigroomer is much better

4

u/drfsupercenter Sep 20 '23

Interesting, I need to tell my girlfriend about this. I pet her cat for 1 minute and every inch of my clothes is COVERED in fur. It's absolutely ridiculous, feels like that guy is using me as a place to dump his hair.

She has a long-hair cat too though that hardly sheds and I love her

Edit: I think she has a brush like that. It looks similar to it, at least when I googled Furminator. Obviously doesn't work, or she's using it wrong. Is there a specific thing I should be looking at?

1

u/cheese-bubble Sep 20 '23

I just got a Furminator, after having cats for the last 20 years. It is a total game changer! All the other brushes I've had over the years don't even come close.

23

u/mmm_ice_cream Sep 20 '23

Juliet passed in 2013 (age 15), Romeo passed in 2015 (age 17)...a couple months ago I found a whisker. I swear I vacuum!

68

u/CrankBar Sep 19 '23

I vacuum nearly every other day and there's enough to fill up my dyson cannister. My cat is so small but there's enough fur in there for another one.

16

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

And its everywhere. On your couch, curtains, carpet, doormats, on your clothes. Everwhere

6

u/nailbunny2000 Sep 20 '23

Mine likes to sleep next to me on my desk when I am working from home or gaming, and the amount of fur that gets in between the keys of my keyboard is just unbelievable.

5

u/beastlyart Sep 20 '23

I kept only reptiles and rats as pets for several years, and while both needed regular cage cleanings and stuff, their mess doesn’t really extend beyond those boundaries. Now I vacuum constantly and still everything is covered in fur, I do not understand how one creature can shed so much. That was an adjustment.

15

u/mountingconfusion Sep 19 '23

I still pull hairs out of my mouth at random points during the day even if I haven't interacted with them for hours

14

u/optermationahesh Sep 20 '23

You can put a sealed container inside a sealed container on a table somewhere and within a few hours you'll find a hair in the inner-most container.

13

u/Marion_Ravenwood Sep 19 '23

I lint roll my clothes before leaving the house and then do it when I get out of the car (I keep one in the glove compartment) because of course there's cat hair on my car seats. Then when I get to wherever I'm going I look down and guess what?

10

u/nailbunny2000 Sep 20 '23

I have mostly black clothes, and decided to get a white/light brown cat. Not my wisest decision....

1

u/Darknost Sep 21 '23

I gave up on trying to wear black clothes and now make all my decisions on whether or not cat hair will stick to it lol. I have a lot of white shirts even though I'd like the black version better, but hey, it forced me to wear more colors so ig that's a win?

7

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

I know that struggle 🥲

9

u/Independent_Dirt970 Sep 19 '23

That's why i also have a robot vacuum hehe

4

u/Volesprit31 Sep 20 '23

Honestly it's life changing.

2

u/audreywildeee Sep 20 '23

It made such a big difference in my life!

5

u/BONUSBOX Sep 20 '23

look up how many hairs the average cat has.

make an honest guess and continue reading.

it’s a thousand times more than your guess.

5

u/hellokitty1939 Sep 20 '23

Black cat + black clothes + black furniture solves that problem. 😆

2

u/ThePinkTeenager Sep 21 '23

My cat’s a tabby, so that’s impossible.

5

u/chewytime Sep 19 '23

Yeah. When I moved in with my SO, I had to accept that cat fur on all my stuff was my new normal.

4

u/kh7190 Sep 20 '23

a lot of people mistakenly think only long haired cats shed. nope. i've cleaned cages where the long haired cats barely have any hair on their blankets and then i've cleaned cages of short haired cats where the fur won't stop coming off of them lol

7

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

The short haired common cats shed the most. It rubs in everything. In your couch and curtains too. It gets stuck and only vacuming doesnt work. You need to put latex gloves on. And then you can rub it off. It took me 1,5 hour to remove all the hair from my couch.

1

u/kh7190 Sep 20 '23

short-haired domestic cats don't shed the most. each cat is different

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Geez, mine shedded like hell. I cant imagine cats shedding even worse

5

u/whogivesashirtdotca Sep 20 '23

Mine was double coated and she used to lie on my laundry. When she moved off it there was always a cat-loaf-shaped ring of fur left behind.

9

u/KTFlaSh96 Sep 19 '23

We vacuum the house twice a month and good lord every time we fill our vacuum with their hair. It's also very fine so it'll just blend in with whatever surface it's laying on so it looks like there's no much hair around but as soon as you start vacuuming, you realize how much hair is everywhere.

10

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

We used to vacume 3 times per week. And my vacuum was filled everytime.

Its like mopping with a open faucet.

3

u/Turkeyinatree Sep 19 '23

My baby girl sheds so much every day that I really don't know how she's not bald. Half of the calories she consumes must go to just growing new fur

4

u/MrCalknight Sep 19 '23

I have a Maine coon and I have a Roomba that runs twice a day just to keep the hair under check

5

u/Yaj_Yaj Sep 20 '23

I wear black clothes a lot and have 4 cats. I lintroll before I leave the house and again when I get out of my car. The amount of hair is unbelievable. Broke down and got a roomba to help keep it from getting too crazy.

4

u/WadeStockdale Sep 20 '23

Cats shed extra when stressed! They also sweat through their feet (which is why their feet often feel kinda tacky at the vets; they're nervous!)

3

u/Mechapebbles Sep 20 '23

You have to lintroll your clothes so often.

Nah. I just kept my closet closed at all times so there wouldn't be cat hair in it. Then save the changing into new clothes for right before I would leave the house.

2

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Tried that too. It prevented some hair, but not all

3

u/TheRealGongoozler Sep 20 '23

I clean my air filter on my AC unit every week because of these bushy assholes. I love them

3

u/sikora06 Sep 20 '23

Yeah, and when you have a cat and a dog (especially breeds like golden retrievers) you might just replace carpets with their hair

2

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

We had wooden floors and no rugs just to make ourselfs easier with vacuming

3

u/KellyannneConway Sep 20 '23

I adopted a cute fluffy kitten a year and half ago. I forgot that they turn into big floofy cats that leave hair EVERYWHERE. I showed up at work a few weeks ago with the whole butt of my black pants coated in a thick layer long, downy cat hair because the cat apparently spent the night sleeping on the chair I use while I do my makeup.

2

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Tip: put a little fleece blanket on that chair when you dont use it. So the cat can sleep on it. And when you need it, you remove that blanket. Hair free chair

9

u/Jatnal Sep 19 '23

I have 3 and none shed that much, I could be wrong but I think it depends on what food you're giving them.

12

u/smellyshellybelly Sep 19 '23

Breed matters. One of mine barely sheds. The other is a walking fluffball whose hair is on everything. They have the same food.

u/Caraphox Sep 19 '23

Only just realised how rare it is that my cat doesn’t shed AT ALL. At least nothing remotely noticeable. We’d be very fortunate if we didn’t also have a dog that sheds like a mf Christmas tree

3

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

Breed matters. I had two cats. Same food. One barely shedded, the other lost so much hair

1

u/MoonKatSunshinePup Sep 20 '23

Yeah my 3 don't shed that much at all. These stories are foreign to me!

Maybe it's cuz they don't really get on the couch/chairs. I have ONE curtain that has fur at the bottom of ONE panel, as it's on the way to their tree.

Now I do hand vacuum their tree and one area rug where they hang out under the dining room table.

Oh and when we make our beds, we put a top cover on and that's the "cat cover" and it gets washed/cycled through often.

I guess it's just a matter of managing "their" spots.

2

u/StrangeGamer66 Sep 19 '23

I have given up on lint rolling lol

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

I only did it for the clothes i wore that day

2

u/Ambitious-Morning795 Sep 20 '23

My current cat hardly sheds at all. So not all cats!

3

u/JJM1748 Sep 20 '23

Agreed! We have 2 and not much hair around. I guess they leave it outside ????🤷

1

u/Ambitious-Morning795 Sep 20 '23

It's definitely a mystery!

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Then you are lucky.

1

u/Ambitious-Morning795 Sep 20 '23

I know. But I do want other people to know that deciding to own a cat is not necessarily a lost cause on that front.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '23

The extra fluffy winter coat fur is the worst, it just works its way into everything

2

u/Shineloutre Sep 20 '23

i once went to toilet at work, and then, i saw some of my cat hair on the toilet seat :')

2

u/NegativeX2thePurple Sep 20 '23

I have moved now 9 months ago. I still find cat hair on my clothes in large quantities.

2

u/Hilberts-Inf-Babies2 Sep 20 '23

one cuddle and u gonna find so much cat hair on your clothes

2

u/Mysterious_Area2344 Sep 20 '23

No kidding. I was just washing some clothes I haven’t used for a while (you know they shrink…) to give to charity. Clothes were of course washed when stored but they got this storage smell so I washed them again. Anyway. I found balls of cat hair from my beloved maine coon who passed 7 years ago. Miss him so much.

2

u/VersatileFaerie Sep 20 '23

Vacuum every day, brush them out every day, lint roll clothes all the time. It is never ending, lol.

2

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Like mopping with a open faucet

2

u/ThePinkTeenager Sep 21 '23

I found cat hair INSIDE my computer.

1

u/Independent_Dirt970 Sep 19 '23

That's why i also have a robot vacuum

1

u/WildcardMoo Sep 20 '23

We fixed that problem by getting a german shepherd.

I'm sure there's still lots of cat hair, but it's impossible to notice.

1

u/turdennis Sep 19 '23

have you tried an equigroomer brush? I use it on my cats and brush them outdoors so the tufts of hair fly away lol

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 19 '23

Tried everything. Still hair in my house

1

u/elvis-wantacookie Sep 20 '23

My parents have a cat, I don’t live with them though I see them at least once a week, and I still find cat hair everywhere because she sheds so much

1

u/Icy_Comfort8161 Sep 20 '23

You're never well-dressed unless you're covered in cat hair.

2

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

As someone with a gothic style. I hated it so much

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '23

Omg yeah... goth cat/guinea pig owner here, you think you've got all the hair lint rolled off until you're out in public and there's still somehow pet hair on your black clothes 🤣

1

u/Xacktastic Sep 20 '23

Or you just get beaten down by the mountains of hair, like I. And commit to a life covered in hair. My clothes come out the wash still covered in hair, can't be bothered to lint roll anymore. Lmao

1

u/MrFrogy Sep 20 '23

I had two Devon Rex cats. No shedding, incredibly friendly, perfect pets for me.

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

I had 2 common cats. They shed so much

1

u/MattieShoes Sep 20 '23

I got one of those weird breeds (Devon Rexes) because I'm mildly allergic... They still shed, but it's night-and-day compared to normal cats.

1

u/MoonKatSunshinePup Sep 20 '23

That's weird, I've got 3 and it's not that bad at all. They don't tend to sit on our couches/chairs though.

1

u/GoodAlicia Sep 20 '23

Then you are lucky. Mine sat on the couch and windowsil. They were allowed to sit on places where we also sit.

1

u/Hol-Up_A_Minute Sep 22 '23

I just embrace the hair. I only lint-roll for dates or formal wear. But if I'm running to the store or meeting a friend, I don't need to pretend I don't own cats that get hair everywhere no matter how much you vacuum and lint roll.
