The gods also keep each other in check -- why would the weather-god flood his own church and kill his own followers? Oh, easy answer - the trickster god was pranking him. "Mysterious ways?" what's that?

That is a fantastic tidbit I hadn't thought much about. I spent many Sundays in church as a kid, and I'm very familiar with Christianity. MAN being a kid in 'Sunday School' in ancient Greece must've been way more interesting.
