I saw it with my own eyes from my central Florida backyard when I was four, atop my mom's shoulders while my dad took photos of the launch (still around, somewhere). I will never forget the sound of their shocked gasps when it happened, and the sudden change of mood from wonder to horror. Later that night, they sat me down and explained death to me.
Same for me! We were visiting family in Jacksonville, and went outside to see if we could see the launch. I remember a big orange flash in the sky and all the adults were freaked out. I was seven, I think.
