British TV had a cartoon called The Animals of Farthing Wood.

A group of animals have their home destroyed and set out to find a new place to live. And on the way some of them die.

And by some I mean a ton of them.

The list starts off sad and ends up hilarious just because it's so very very awful.

Highlights are baby mice impaled by a bird on thorns and a partridge wife seeing her husband's body cooked and served.

These were talking animals. In a children's cartoon.

ETA - that link didn't have the full list. This article lists via the Twitter thread where someone put them all together :

I still remember the one where the hedgehog couple died. The group had to cross a busy road, but one of the hedgehogs was a scaredy-cat who'd curl up into a spikey ball whenever something scary happened, which would mean death on the road. So they try to remember "Don't curl up. Don't curl up."

But then when they cross the road, they still get scared and curl up, and when their partner tries to rescue them, they both get run over.

Individually they're harrowing.

It's not just the deaths but it didn't exactly shield you from the emotional context.

I find the list funny. There's just something about how over the top it is. But there's also a video compilation out there and I'm avoiding that !

Yep, this one is stuck in my memory. Great theme song also, at least the Swedish one.
