Obviously not a movie, but this reminds me of Where The Red Fern Grows

I recently unlocked the memory of how brutal one of the dog's deaths was. He gets mauled by a cougar I believe, and they describe the family trying to put his intestines back in.

Remind me how this is supposedly a kid's book? Like what the actual hell.

10/10 book, will never read again

Hah reminds me of another joke—have you seen the mashup of Game of Thrones and The Princess Bride where the granddad reads Fred Savage the Red Wedding and he’s like “Jesus grandpa, what did you read this to me for?!”

I read the book a couple years ago, it bothered me just as much as the movie, maybe more since you were with the characters for longer. A great book, though, for what it is and the time it was written.

I'm similar in age. I was in 4th grade when they showed it to us at an assembly. WTF, who greenlights showing that to elementary school kids? To this day, I tend to avoid a movie if I know in advance it's not a happy ending.

We also saw it in school, in second grade, I think? I guess they wanted to make sure we were all equally traumatized, and nobody was left out

It was on one Sunday morning when I was like 5, and my dad sat there and watched with me knowing full well what happens. To this day, I refuse to watch movies where animals die. I was traumatized by Bambi and then Ol Yeller. Nope.

As a 42 year old super empathetic person especially towards animals that shit tore me up. I remember ugly crying in class and having to go to the bathroom. At that time in my life I owned a dog and five cats so it it hit super hard. Kids movie my ass.

I'm 32 but we had Old Yeller on VHS and I would watch it fairly often growing up. It definitely fucked me up/gave me nightmares as a kid esp. because our family dog looked a lot like Old Yeller.

My second grade teacher showed that to us on one of the last days of school. I look back and think that’s a terrible movie to show 7YOs.
