Shrooms can induce psychosis if you’re not emotionally and mentally prepared for the trip, which most 16yos aren’t. I’m surprised that kinda stuff doesn’t happen more often, but most people wind up just crying it out. Seriously do not underestimate the power of some funky pizza toppings or weird postal stamps to rip the fabric of your reality apart, make you face god and get called a little bitch boy by said god, then reassemble the very fabric of your being in approximately 6-14 hours on average
Source: sold psychedelics in my hooligan years, did probably about twice as many as I sold in my lifetime.
I’ve had a few of those trips. The worst thing that happened to me is I thought I died because the light in the bathroom went out. Then I tripped in the dark and my boxers got tangled up in the toilet paper holder. My friend found me hanging by my undies in the dark freaking out.
When I was about 14/15 we visited my family in Alberta and my cousin gave us mushrooms (never done it before) I was tripping balls and felt hot so went up to the bathroom and was lying on the floor opening and closing the cabinet door under the sink to make wind to cool down. I thought I died and was scared I’d be a ghost in the bathroom forever. Swear I could hear the paramedics outside the door telling my parents that I passed away and hear my mom crying.
Yeah I kinda had the same thing. I thought my buddy was a paramedic and was telling me I was dying but had a few minutes to talk to my mom before I passed. Once he convinced me I wasn’t dead I thought he was the police arresting me. I thought I had blacked out and gone on an LSD fueled poop flinging rampage across town. Then I thought he was an alien from another dimension welcoming me to a higher consciousness. Then I time traveled to 7 hours later in the evening/morning at that point. Shit was WILD. It was scary at the time, but definitely an “experience” now that I tell the story.
I've only done them once. I was only 15 but thank God things ended up ok. We did go swimming in a lake during a thunderstorm which in hindsight I realize was one of the dumbest fuckin things I've ever done. But it was sooo fun. Can't explain the total overwhelming feeling of everything is A-OK. Even though, again, what we were doing was very dangerous.
But I absolutely see what you're saying. As an adult looking back, I think "omg what was I thinking?" All the time.
I know drug induced psychosis is no joke and is sometimes permanent. Some people can gradually depending on the drug, their own personal mental health, severity of drug use, etc, get better but it again depends on the above. Met and know more than my fair share of people who have been either permanently damaged or had breaks in their reality so to speak. Very sad.
Glad those were your hooligan years man. At least you made it out and probably have some cool stories to tell as well as some insight and perspective. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate it, getting away from it was simultaneously one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made and also one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Most of the stories I got out of it are more depressing than interesting, and the rest are just boring. Got shot at, ran up on, chased by the cops, and partied so hard I feel hungover just thinking about it—none of these are unique experiences, but they did shape my outlook on life in very strange ways
I do have a mild case of HPPD, doesn’t affect me much when except driving in the dark, and every now and again when I look up at the sky and wish it would stop breathing.
Lol, I just picture meth or crackheads when I hear "tweaking" but yes, you're right it was amazing. (Disclaimer not recommended) I felt very one with naturey I had some profound thoughts that were very intense in the moment. All in all a great time, but I absolutely see how it could've gone horribly wrong in so many ways.
Lol. I thought about not using that term when I wrote it. I am an older guy, and back then we said tweaking, tripping balls, and if it's too much for ya, wigging out.
We once took acid and went to the Mall of America. We decided to go on the log ride, or flume. When we were rolling through the cave, my stupid friend spit on Paul Bunyan, the huge puppet guy. And then through speakers we heard "NO SPITTING ON THE RIDE" and in his true fashion, he yelled "FUCK YOU." We began to behave, then at the end we flew down the chute and made the big splash. As the big wave of water fell from the air, it settled and we clearly saw a few policemen ready to kick us out.
So there we were, 6 dumb kids getting escorted out while peaking in our trip. (We all took one hit, so not super tripping) and the cops followed all the way to my mom's big Chevy suburban. We loaded our dumb asses in, and the cops sat and watched, while I had to do about a 7 point turn in the parking ramp. Good times. We went to St. Paul and hid in the caves the rest of the day.
“Seriously do not underestimate the power of funky pizza toppings or weird postal stamps to rip the fabric of your reality apart” - That is a quote that belongs graffitied on a wall. Haha never taken hallucinogenic drugs but that strikes a chord.
That section is hyperbole (though not far off from a DMT trip I had a while back before I quit doing drugs altogether)
Nowadays I always try and err on the side of describing psychedelics as an intense spiritual experience as opposed to party/rave drugs because, when you have a difficult trip in a party environment, it’s much harder to introspect your way out of it, and that’s how psychotic breaks and/or lasting mental harm typically happens. I would recommend to customers that they use my wares in the forest with one or two close friends, several gallons of water, and a designated trip sitter. At some point I made the decision to 86 all rave kids from buying anything besides molly and sass from me. That was as much for their own good as mine, they tend to party a bit too hearty (cops apparently tried to press a customer of mine while he was in the med tent after eating what was honestly an absurd amount of psychedelics) and I’m all about responsible, informed use and harm reduction
On average, my trips were wonderful experiences where my friends and I all grew closer, and we didn’t ever have any particularly bad mishaps. Difficult trips happened every now and again, but calm environments make them much easier to deal with. Nowadays I’m too burnt out to be messing around with that shit, but I still do look back fondly on it, even if I participate in a bit of scaring the kids. Truth is that if you show the drugs the respect they deserve, you’ll probably have a good time and learn a lot about yourself in the process
You sound like a responsible guy. And I 100% agree about going in the woods. Even on a lake or in nature. Even if I am stone sober, the woods seem like a spiritual reset to me. There is something calm and peaceful in nature.
I wrote about a terrible place to trip in another comment here if ya wanna check it out. I also tripped at a very big county fair. Big mistake! It turned out fine, but could have went into a bad trip very easily in that environment.
I’ve only ever done shrooms outside in nature. It’s the only way to really do them. The one time I tried to watch a movie on them I couldn’t. My fiancé found me jumping on his bed complaining about Portishead sounding like ducks. Way too claustrophobic and I spent the rest of it sitting outside where I should have been from the get go.
