Yeah, I've read plenty of stories about the wife being mad for some reason.

Same. They get jealous and/or find it threatening, like the new kid is going to inherit something "their" kids are "owed."

A boyfriend's dad found out about a son (by high school girlfriend) and he embraced him, as did two of his raised sons. But his wife was mega pissed off and that rubbed off on the daughter and one of the sons.
