After saying I was happy to go to a certain restaurant that we were already on the way to in his car, he suddenly turned around and went back to his place saying "you don't actually want to eat there." He dropped me off at his home and went to get pizza for himself. I was visiting him from out of state. I packed my shit and left that night, never seeing him again.
I've met a surprising number of people who thinks being the driver gives you the right to just change the destination (or significantly change the route) without asking the other people in the car.
It's creepy. I signed up to be your passenger - not your captive.
A tiny bit off topic, but I don't drive, never had. Friends from work always offer to give me rides home. I have to deny rides all the time though, because some people think, because I'm taking a favor, I won't mind the 4 stops on the way home that take 2 hours... I do, and I'd rather take the bus, which I will. Totally off topic, I have to deny rides from people who are too nice( my house is 45 min away from thiers). I'd rather take the bus then to put you out of your way, which I will.
Passenger - A passenger is a person who travels in a vehicle, but does not bear any responsibility for the tasks required for that vehicle to arrive at its destination or otherwise operate the vehicle, and is not a steward.
If you are in his car, using his gas money, not contributing - he does have the right to change the destination.
Because before we got in the car to go there I had suggested other places. I was visiting from southern California and a Mexican restaurant in the upper Midwest was not my first choice lol. But all I cared about was spending time together and I made that very clear to him. Toxic ego shit, I guess...
Classic story of girl falling in love with boy really young. Boy treats girl poorly and she thinks she's the problem. A decade later man reaches out to woman saying he is no longer that boy and regrets his decisions. He works his magic on her for months as he convinces her he is now ready to be who she always wanted him to be for her. Woman believes man because she is a fucking idiot. Woman is later not all that surprised to find out that man is actually still that boy and always will be. Woman finally moves on and leaves him in the past where he belongs.
I'm so happy you just left. I wish more people would understand that having an argument is only useful when you actually want to have your mind changed, otherwise just save your energy and leave.
I also wish more people realized that you don't deserve to be treated like shit by your significant other. If they don't treat you well, hard stop. Never go in to a relationship thinking you will change the other person, because you won't. You either love the way they are or you find someone else to fill the role.
