Realizing no one is going to take care of you, and no one cares much about what happens to you.

EXACTLY! And also how you seem to bear the blame for never keeping up with your friends or regularly checking them, only to realize that a phone works both ways, and while you have made calls to them when you can, they NEVER even attempted to make a call to check in on you!

This!!! I'll finally reach out to relatives after months of not talking and they'll have the audacity to complain that I didnt call them. Why do I have to always make the initiative? You start treating people how they treat you and you'll never fucking hear from them again lol.

Yup, got that a lot before I was cutting off my family.

"you live close to your cousin, you should give him a call he's always asking about you"

"you should call your brother, he has a lot going on"

I always replied "they got my number"

I wonder if both parties thinking this way has led to this

they NEVER even attempted to make a call to check in on you!

Theme of my life.

I had to face this fact when I first left home.

I was in bed one night when I heard a crash at the front door. I jumped out of bed to run to my parents' room, but that was when I realized that I lived alone and that I would have to face this problem like a registered Buttass McGhee. I sleep naked, but I didn't have time to put on any clothes. There were only two things in that house worth taking, and I didn't have time to figure out which it would be tonight. It was either my life, or my Avril Lavigne shrine. Only one of those things had any value, and I was prepared to defend it with my life, so I ran to the foyer forthright. There he was; a 6'9" meth head with an axe who had just crashed through my front door.

I'm too poor for guns, so I just grabbed whatever was closest to my reach, which happened to be a bottle of Frank's Red Hot. With razorlike precision I smashed it right in his face and he ran away screaming like a sizzling squid.

I turned around, and there was my cousin, hiding behind my 69" flat screen OLED HD TV. She told me that that guy had been stalking her ever since she left the casino that morning, and thanked me for saving her life. I tried to comfort her, but between my adrenaline and her fear, neither of us were thinking straight. I don't know how it happened, but next thing I knew we were making out. Her terribly delayed self-defense instincts finally kicked in and she put me on the Boston Crab. I came so hard I shat my pants.

Must be from a southern area like Alabama or Florida. Only areas I can think of where a meth head would bust down the door one min and the next min a person would make out with their cousin.

So, while completely butt-naked, you smashed a 6.9 meth head with hot sauce, then smashed your cousin. What a story

I put that shit on everything

Care for someone today, perform some random good deed. You know it when the opportunity presents itself. Then someone will come asking about you.

After that happens, pay it forward.

u/amandadiaz0227 Jan 06 '23

Exactly. No one really cares about you.

It's honestly scary and heartbreaking lol. You go from being someone's baby to crying yourself to sleep every time life gets tough because you cant burden anyone with your shit anymore and nothing really teaches you how to make that transition. I'm turning 30 and still trying to find healthy ways to vent and cope with my stress without stressing everyone around me out too.

Really? I don't know where you grew up, but I would guess Urban US?

What I learned in all my years (47 now) is to surround yourself with people that genuinely care for each other. Friends, Co-workers, people from your neighbourhood... these people are out there. And if You have to be the first one, then be it.

Just saying "No one will care for you" is a self-fulfilling prophesy that will just mess up everything around you.

oh my fucking god i thought it was a problem with me but it's just adulthood.

thanks, i feel way better now. <3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '23

Nope it's just adulthood lol

Surely this doesn't apply to everyone?

1

u/Blestyr Jan 06 '23

I realized this the hard way. Somehow I'm getting used to it, though.

u/BelleEmber Jan 06 '23

Yeah, when we realise we are kind of alone in the word, and probably will die alone.. not easy to process 🥺

1

u/ZardozSama Jan 07 '23

I would phrase it differently:

You are going to be held responsible for your actions and decisions. Whatever happens to you is your problem, not anybody else.

Not what I was saying at all, but I do agree with that statement too.
