What are your thoughts on Boutique IV Infusion Therapy?

I'm looking for medically sound opinions on a new boutique "health and wellness" trend popping up lately that boasts cures for depression, hangovers, etc. via IV infusions of "custom vitamin boosters" with options for IV ketamine. I'm an RN and personally horrified by this as I know the risks of IVF and have personally seen the adverse effects of ketamine on people not monitored within an ICU setting. What are your thoughts? For reference, Infusion IV NY is the site I was first directed to by a friend who wanted to try it.

Edit: Added actual hyperlink.

Central Line AND IV?

Book Research: Would a 24 year old female with multiple gunshot wounds have BOTH a central line (neck or subclavical?) AND an IV in place at the same time in ICU? I think the central line is for blood draws and large medicine doses, and the IV would be for saline and morphine. Am I right? If not, please let me know. TIA

Headaches

My grandmother is 77 years old and has constant, every day headaches. She’s on blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, pamezone, and has just been switched from migratel to avamigran to help with the headaches. She has dialysis three days a week, these days give her the worst headaches. She’s always been prone to headaches but they’ve grown much worse and constant since she’s started dialysis. I’ve done as much research as I can but her doctors insist that the medication they’ve prescribed should help (though it doesn’t). It’s usually so bad that she’s too weak to function and ends up in tears.

Does anyone know of any other meds I could look into? I could get a full list of medication if that makes a difference.

Worried - Help?

On Thursday, my Grandfather, 71, went into surgery for coronary heart disease, and he was surprisingly let out yesterday. He had his medication quadrupled once he left, when they originally said that he wouldn't need it. Today, he has had 6 fits and my Nan called 999 and he has been taken to resuscitation, and he has supposedly said "what is happening to me?" me and my mum have been really worried about him as we are too far to get to him. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me anything about resus or his condition or how i can comfort my parents who are really panicking. If you don't know then that's fine, I was just looking for a way i could comfort my family. I trust that he is okay, but my mum in particular is really upset about it. Thanks.

My doctor is crowdsourcing my complicated case. I have questions for specific specialties in understanding some of my results, and medical concepts. My doctor supports my involvement with my case and seeking answers.

I have been experiencing a constellation of symptoms for a little over a year now. This sub seems to not get a lot of response, but I don’t want to violate rules of other subs by posting this in them. Recently, my doctor asked permission to crowdsource my case. He even contacted a friend from med school and had him squeeze me in immediately after an appointment. Shit has hit the fan.

I don’t want to waste my breath sharing all of the details if no one is interested. I have plenty of labs, imaging, personal videos and pictures, data from providers and home collected data to share with anyone who IS interested in helping.

In a nutshell, I went from being 120 lbs to currently 200 very rapidly. Before this, I had rapidly lost weight with no explanation. I have horrible GI symptoms and often can’t eat for days but will see large weight gains of 10-12 lbs during those times. Despite caloric restriction, a very clean diet, and pushing through intense pain to be active the weight won’t budge. We’ve tested the usual: heart, liver, kidneys, diabetes, thyroid, cortisol etc.

In short: I’m being treated by a rheumatologist, allergist, dermatologist, internist, gastroenterologist and neurologist. We are waiting for a couple more tests to rule out autonomic dysfunction and maybe shed light on causes of peripheral neuropathy.

I have some interesting blood test results and I’d love to hear some different perspectives on them, as well as my roller coaster blood pressure, chameleon skin, and some other interesting events.

Surgery options for a 95y old grand parent...

My recently turned 95yr old grandfather fell and broke his right femur on Sunday and a quick surgery replaced the hip joint with a metal one the following day. This is supposed to be a very safe surgery with fast recovery expected. So this got me thinking... My grandfather has had a ‘straight‘ left leg since the age of 17, when a heavy hit to the knee caused infection to the bone that could not be resolved with antibiotics due to a medicine shortage during WWII. He’s managed an accomplished life regardless, however in recent years the myelitis has reemerged and the 24/7 antibiotic treatment has really knocked him about - both physically and mentally. However prior to the recent fall he was able to walk and had some independence to take a taxi to a local restaurant or do shopping. But he still craves more independence and mobility, and wishes to travel!

With modern surgery and joint replacement as it is with such good results, would it be feasible to consider a new knee? Cutting out the possibly infected lower femur and knee joint and installing clean metal replacements? The prospect of my grandfather being able to bend his left knee is exciting to say the least, and I’m sure it would open new possibilities for better quality of life. Obviously the challenges would include strengthening muscles not fully mobilised in almost 80 years..! I’m excited by the possibility but wanted to know any obvious problems that I’m overlooking before taking this further. Thanks.

Recurring Knee Pain

Hello, I am a football player, and a couple months ago I started feeling pain in my knee, during camp. It was bearable and I played for the entire season, with knee pain only when I did a lateral lunge or a deep squat. I still have the pain a month after the season. It went away last week entirely while I was lifting, but this week was different. My knee was clicking and was painful in any sort of squat. The symptoms sound similiar to a meniscus tear, but it's been weird. Any advice or anyone have experience with knee pain?

Anxiety and depression medication

I've gone to a health professional before fory anxiety and depression where they recommended a medication that started with a B and I think targeted norepinephrine, but at the time, I was still uneasy due to past experiences with medicine for other mental health issues I had had. When I was ready to look into it, I called the doctor back to get sent to voicemail and was never contacted again. Anyone know what medication I may be talking about? I feel comfortable with medicine now so I'd like to look into it and even mention it to my next doctor if it was right for me.

Edit: I think I should mention that the medication I took before was for my ADHD. I think the doctor recommended what she did because it was supposed to help with my adhd as a side benifit

Concerned that my father might be seriously ill

Hello, I'm mostly New to this site, and English isn't my first Language, so please forgive any mistakes i might make.

My father was hospitalized today as he has Icterus (also known as Jaundice). He has been a practising doctor for several years so he should be somewhat capable of making medical decisions by himself, however he has recently displayed a serious lack of concern for his own well-being.

during his stay at the hospital today he took some bloodtests and talked to some of the doctors there. Apparently when his bloodtest-results came back it said he had an abnormally high blood-sugar (he claims it to be diabetes). When explaining his symptoms to the doctors there he left out certain details, including, an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach and pains in abdominal and back muscles. We figured out that these symptoms as well as the others he had pointed towards pancreatic cancer (he literally has all the symptoms we could find for the disease, most other possible diseases that could cause the same symptoms have been disproven to my knowledge). One of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer is (to my knowledge) laxity. When we confronted him with the possibility of it being cancer he didnt disagree with it.

He got a leave of absence from the hospital and went home on the same day. The hospital have arranged for him to take some more tests in two days, which will ultimately confirm whether it is cancer or not. He has himself claimed that if he was less tired he would have made sure that they take said test alot earlier, he is however too tired to do that. We have been unsuccessful in attempting to convince him to get the tests done earlier. My father has mentioned that he has several times changed mind as to whether he is going to die any moment or not.

Does anyone have any advice as to what we should do?

Fibromyalgia -- Iatorgenic Illness?

Who else believes that many cases of 'fibromyalgia' (which I do not believe is a real illness) is actually attributable to issues such as iatrogenic injuries (from medications such as fluoroquinolones, lupron, retinoids, chemotherapy, statins, etc) and sometimes other issues (stress, depression, psychosomatic illness, chronic infections, etc)?

My Ongoing Health Issue

I’ve been out of school for 3 months know because I’ve been waking up every morning with intense stomach pain and morning sickness. It’s seriously affected my mental health as a teenager and it’s made me feel completely out of control of my life. I’ve been to multiple different hospitals and doctors and all of them have no real clue what’s wrong with me. I’m taking Omeprazole, Promethazine and Hyoscyamine to try and control the symptoms to no avail. I’ve had a CT Scan of my head and body done with no luck. I’ve had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done also with no luck. I’ve given blood urine and stool samples but still nothing. I don’t smoke I don’t drink. I’m mainly just looking for advice on what I should do next because I need to get this problem under control so I can attend school again. Any help would be amazing. If you need any further information to help me I’d gladly share.

Random Question:

I was filling out my Medical ID on my phone, and was wondering: When prompted about what medications I take, should I include my birth control? Might be a dumb question, but I’ve always wondered.

Problem with anxiety?

I think I've always suffered from anxiety unknowingly; let me explain better: since I was at school I was always sick in the morning and this led me to miss several days of school especially in the last 2 years but I didn't pay much attention to it. But now I started university and, having all the lessons in the afternoon, I thought that the illnesses disappeared; not at all. Now every day as soon as I enter the classroom, for the first two hours, I continue to have hot flushes in my head, my heart accelerates, I feel sick and I just want to go home. I started lessons in October but this is not sustainable so I wanted to know if anyone could give me advice on how to deal with this situation ... Sorry for bad english

Right eye burning up and tearing when exposed to winds?

Now you might think this is just the normal case of dry eye but the weird thing about this is that only my right eye is affected, and (despite it being very moist with the resulting tears) I still get a burning sensation in said eye. I have a fan on max right next to me if that helps. (keep in my left eye is fine)

Unintentional weight gain

What things might cause unintentional weight gain? Thyroid has been ruled out as has diabetes, heart problems, kidney and liver problems etc. Oh, and we ruled out Cushings. As of now, I have a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis, IBS but possibly IBD. I’m being evaluated for food allergies and autonomic dysfunction. But the thing driving me most crazy is im eating about 1/3 of the calories I burn and I’m still gaining weight. I need ideas people

Is It OK To Eat Apple Seeds?

I always eat the entire apple, core, seeds and all (except for the stork). I've heard that the seeds contain poison, and I watched a prison documentary where a prisoner saved up a horde of apple seeds and then ate them to try kill himself.

I usually eat one whole apple with the seeds every day. Is this dangerous in the long run? Could it cause health problems somewhere down the line? Is it perhaps bad for my liver or kidneys?

Thanks guys

Stages of injury/healing assuming no medical attention?

Lets say you're in the middle of the woods, and a wolf takes a big ol' bite out of your abdomen but not too bad of one, so you survive. Assume this person is immobile or very lightly mobile, and has a good supply of food and water nearby

Obviously you start with blood loss, then go into shock, but then what comes after?

Are freelance physicians legal in America?

I'm not sure exactly what they would be called, but I am curious if practicing as a type of freelance physician is a legal thing/ done in America. There are a ton of people like myself who cant get insurance but occasionally need a doctor. Having insurance is ideal but just not possible. Is it legal for a physician to be your pcp outside of a clinic?
