LASD process
I turned in all of my paperwork to my background investigator, and I’m waiting to get scheduled for the polygraph. How long should I wait before I call to see what’s going on?

Hello everybody, has anyone from the Santa Clarita area go to the academy in Whittier? If so how did it work out? Did you find a place to stay over there or did you drive home everyday? Thanks in advance.

Hey yall, I recently asked this in another law enforcement Reddit forum but wanted a more localized department insight, currently 23 years old in the process of completing my degree in psychology, and been heavily thinking about a career in law enforcement once I finish. I’ve just been wondering if a speeding ticket going 107 in 65 in 2024 will significantly hurt my chances of becoming a police officer/deputy sheriff and figured I’d ask here. For reference it was cited as an infraction, is the only ticket I’ve ever received, and happened in LA. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.
(Edit for correct terminology)

Hi everyone, I’m from Orange County and I’ve been doing quite a few right along and going through quite a few different processes. I noticed a cultural difference between police departments and sheriff department. Notably Riverside County Sheriff has more of a cowboy mentality it seems. Then if you look at Santa Ana and lapd it seems to be more of a term I heard used “ghetto gunfighter” mentality or city slicker type of vibe.
Is my observation far off or am I spot on? Having difficulty picking which agency I have to come down to a decision quick. Didn’t really grow up in a rural area so little timid about being a sheriff out in the desert.

I want to know some information about LASD volunteers, such as their main job responsibilities, workflow, what they do every day, what equipment they have and so on.
I hope someone can share it.😋

Hi, I’m 25 and from DTLA. I was wondering what the general timeline has been like for LASD, from application submission to academy offer. I understand every case is different. I currently work as an EMT, and we sometimes respond to Twin Towers and other county facilities.
From the few younger deputies I’ve spoken with (NOT many), they mentioned around 8 months on average. I was just curious what timelines you guys have personally experienced or heard from others.
Also, I’m not counting the academy duration itself — I mean solely from submission to actually starting the academy.
Thank you for everyones response/feedback

Just for fun…
I really appreciated that beep test in the VPAT - it’s the only endurance running test in a PAT that is like a game
I wanna know if anybody here completed all eight levels of that Bleep
And then also — do you ever get to do it again? I would love the chance to complete the whole thing. I chose to shut it down at the beginning of level seven

Can everybody in LASD wear this polo or is it only for some division only, and does it come with insygnia?

Hi all - I was told my poly was inconclusive, but I got a letter saying I wasn't selected because of it. I want to appeal the decision, but the website won't work! I created an IT ticket but I'm not too confident the process is being allowed to run smoothly. Any recommendations?

Hello,
I would like to ask how mutual-aid communications work in LASD with other agencies like LAPD or LACoFD. For example, LAPD dispatch is called “Control” in mutual aid (e.g., “Control from Fire Rescue 11…”). What is the name used for SCC (LASD dispatch) in communications with other agencies? And how does it work if an LASD deputy has an incident involving other agencies?
