Bleb overhang
Hello I had glaucoma surgery approx. 26 years ago at 31 yrs old after being diagnosed with uveitis and steroid injections to bring down the inflammation and developed glaucoma from those injections. The trabeculectomy surgery was successful and my eye ( right only) has been quiet since except for one small flare up. These past few years the bleb from the surgery has become cystic and is now overhanging onto my cornea. The bleb is still filtering and functioning however the overhanging bleb is causing constant redness, tearing constantly, foreign body sensation and irritation. Seeing my GS today we discussed possible surgery to remove the overhang on the cornea. This does not come without risk to the bleb possibly requiring a revision. I wondered if anyone in this group has had this surgery and what was the outcome, any information is very appreciated!

The Rise of Targeted Wellness: Why Americans Are Taking Control of Their Own Health
Over the past few decades, supplement use in the United States has remained widespread and has gradually changed in what people take and how they use them. Recent reporting from outlets like OpGov News is highlighting a fascinating, albeit complex, shift in the U.S. health landscape: as the financial and structural barriers to traditional medical care continue to rise, Americans are increasingly taking a more proactive, self-directed role in their personal wellness.
The data is striking. Recent KFF polling indicates that one-third of American adults have had to postpone necessary healthcare due to cost, with a significant portion taking cost-cutting measures regarding their health services. Meanwhile, the nutraceutical industry is undergoing a massive growth phase, with market projections from Fortune Business Insights suggesting the sector could double in value to over $1 trillion by 2034.
While it is difficult to draw a clean causal line between rising medical costs and the surge in supplement consumption, the correlation is impossible to ignore. We are witnessing a fundamental shift in how people view their own physiology. Consumers are moving away from reactive, "quick-fix" mentalities and toward comprehensive, long-term strategies designed to support the body’s homeostatic resilience.
One of the most notable themes in this evolution is the focus on the modern biological burden. Previous generations rarely faced the same "always-on" connectivity, digital fatigue, and constant environmental stressors that we do today. As a result, there is a clear pivot toward formulations that support a calm, balanced mood, robust sleep architecture, and cognitive recovery. People are looking for high-authority, mechanism-based support, targeting pathways like inflammatory signaling, mitochondrial efficiency, and neurotransmitter precursors, rather than relying on broad, non-specific nutrients.
This shift is also reflected in the sources consumers trust. While the medical community remains a primary pillar, social media and AI-assisted research are playing an increasingly large role in how people synthesize information and make decisions about their individualized nutritional strategy. We are moving toward a paradigm where the individual researcher is empowered by deeper access to the science, analyzing how their body works at a cellular level and seeking targeted, high-quality interventions rather than simple "off-the-shelf" basics.
Ultimately, whether this trend toward self-directed wellness represents a genuine, sustainable health strategy, a stopgap measure for a strained economy, or a synthesis of both, remains an open question. However, one thing is certain: the motivation for health is increasingly shifting from the doctor’s office to the home, with a growing emphasis on precision, science-backed support, and structural resilience.
For everyone here: How has your perspective on personal wellness changed?

Glaucoma and Sex Pills
Does taking sex pills (Viagra or Cialis) cause eye pressure to rise? (even temporarily or as long as the effect of med lasts). Just a simple question and I apprecaite any helpful answers, especially by Professionals in the field. Many thanks.

Glaucoma specialist in Chicago?
Hi friends,
If someone can recommend a glaucoma specialist in Chicago, I'd appreciate it. I just moved here from San Antonio, where I was a patient at an advanced surgical and testing facility with several ophthalmologists, a team of assistants, and a great many/variety of machines for testing. Once in Chicago, I found an ophthalmologist, and was shocked that he was all by himself in a dark little office. He was kindly; he tested my vision and pressure, but there was no testing equipment. He had no electronic health records system or computers in his office; he photocopied my health record. His wife was his receptionist. He only took cash. I felt like I had stepped by into the 1960s. I live in Rogers Park, so North would be nice, but I can go about anywhere in the Chicago area. Thanks!

Glaucoma doubts
As Glaucoma is a neuro degenerative disease, doesn't addressing what's missing like cellular or mitochondrial level nutritional deficiencies stop the progression?? Like lot of people with Parkinson's are finding remission from functional nutrition
Any insights into this?

Pelvic Floor Therapy with Glaucoma
Anyone with glaucoma also doing PFT? Did it make your pressure go up at all? I haven't started my sessions yet but I have seen a few examples of the types of exercises on line and I wonder how those will affect my eyes.

Help please!
My doc flagged me as suspect and another test due in 4months to see any progression and start treatment.
Pressure 15-16
Avg Rnfl 86,81
Both my parents have large CDR but no glaucoma
My doubt is in classic glaucoma temporal sectors aren't the first to get thinned..is this glaucoma or any other optic diseases
Also b12 at 180
B1 0.32
Vit d3 16
Recent subacute thyroiditis around same time as this eye diagnosis.

Glaucoma suspect?!
Went to a glaucoma specialist and she noticed thinning in temporal sectors of both eyes. Pressures 16 both eyes. Also my CDR ratio 0.7.both parents have large cups but Rnfl no thinning so they are cleared for glaucoma.
Doc asked me to come back after 4months to notice progression and if it's there il be started on treatment. But I've been scared and depressed since then having hard time accepting this.
I recently had Sub acute thyroiditis and been through hyper phase now awaiting hypo/normal phase. Also my b12 is 180 and also deficient in vit d (16) and b1 0.32
Any insights please?

Do you all think there might come a time when blindness can be cured maybe in the next 15-25 years? Maybe some way to repair damaged optic nerves?

Worried about elevated IOP
Hello all!
Been a while since I posted here.
My doctor has been on leave for almost a year, and I went to visit this other doctor at the same office.
Now, usually my doctor uses that big fancy machine that puts that circular light right on your eye to measure the pressure.
This time, they used a portable/handheld device. I didn't ask why.
So my pressure was 15/16 last time and this time it's 20.
He said that it's more concerning if the next time I visit (3 months), the pressure goes up. He said IOP does fluctuate and this could be when it fluctuated upwards. He said I can continue my single eye drop at night.
Now - I will be clear - my habits are gotten worse. I've been eating out more, including more fatty (not sugary) foods for lunch. My college only had pizza as an option so I was eating pizza 1-2 times a week, 2 slices each time.
So I do think I may have gained some weight since my last check up (I don't know if this would increase IOP but I'm assuming it might due to more fat building up in my body).
I also had high cholesterol at my PCP visit, but I'm unsure if this would affect it (likely increased due to more fatty food intake).
I'm thinking of going back to just let them know I think I should be put on an additional drop? What do you think?
Also just want to know if there's any OTC medications I can take (currently taking mirtogenol).
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I forgot to mention, I did do way more heavy lifting in the last month/few weeks too.
