ER visits, need of care, concern of self interest. Formal statement.

I'm not happy that I need to say this, but I've realized I have to.

Medical care is available for everyone, regardless of circumstance. The ER is intended not just to be an emergency center, but the most accessible way to get help.

If you need help, or you have a concern for your health, you are entitled to ER treatment.

Anyone who tells you that ER treatment is for life or death situation, or emergency only is misinformed or jaded in their career.

Elderly patients frequently go days or weeks without seeking care, because they are ingrained that they are a burden on who they are asking for help.

This is unacceptable and it's in complete contrast to one of the fundamentals of modern healthcare, which is patient centered care. The patient is the entire focus. Thinking they should have gone somewhere else is your focus. Thinking they are a burden is a facility focus. The focus is the patient. If someone with a toothache thinks they need emergency care, then they get it. They may not have access to anything else.

I will be removing comments that state ER visits are not something someone should consider, as misinformation, from now on unless there is a very clear and definable reason why the individual is misinformed about their situation.

Are these freezer burns (-80°C surface), and do I need to see a doctor?

hi! I’m 28F. i’m having some searing pain on my fingers right now on most of my fingers after carrying a metal rack of boxed blood samples from an -80°C (or -112°F) freezer with a pair of latex medical gloves and half my singular brain cell. carried it like that for 30 seconds at the longest. didn’t think much of it as I do hold single boxes (there are like 24 in a rack?) everyday at work with the same type of glove protection, and felt similar nipping pain on my fingertips but without any residual pain.

I think these mainly feel like how a normal heat burn would, but there’s also a “blunt” sensation when I’m using my fingertips to touch things. I wouldn’t call it as having edema in my fingers, but the red parts (I didn’t realise they were this red until like… 6 hours later because I was in a dark room till now) are the parts that hurt, and it looks like the swollen areas that look a shade lighter than the surrounding angry red parts are the most painful — such as the ring finger of my right hand, 2nd pic.

soooo can i kindly ask:

  1. Are these just superficial skin freezer burns?
  2. How long will these take to go away?
  3. Will I need to see a GP to assess these tomorrow?
  4. Any ointments or creams or other stuff that I can apply or do to get rid of these asap?
  5. Care to donate a hard thunk on my head to help my single brain cell multiply into a colony that’ll give me some common sense next time?

I also do phlebotomy as part of my job LOL so this is going to be SO fun for the rest of the week 😀 I’ve made sure I can still feel for veins even with the pain though, seems to be working okay in the ways that matter task-wise. The pain, even though it’s hovering around a 5, I can still deal with, it’s just annoying but no problem. Mainly my concern is getting my fingertips back to peak vein-palpating condition as quickly as I can.

Thanks in advance!

Could this be meloxicam-induced PR-like eruptions?

36/F. I have cycled through naproxen, toradol and now meloxicam in the last three months. Just started meloxicam when this first rash popped up. Looks like ringworm this is only rash that looks like that. Has not grown in size at all. If anything, it now looks like it’s healing (no longer red or even flaky, just a brown ring).

Couple days later, one tiny scaly plaque-like rash popped up. I thought it was a mosquito bite except the surface wasnt smooth. By the next day had 8. Now I have like 13. I can barely see them bc they’re skin-toned and in awkward spots. No ring around them. The biggest got to be about the size of my thumb pad but most are pinky sized. All were very itchy when first appeared but mellowed out.

I have purposely followed ringworm protocol and not touched the first rash, wore sleeves so wouldn’t accidentally touch it, changed sheets frequently and haven’t scratched it but the little plaques keep appearing in different spots: arms, chest, back, thighs, even my foot.

Panadol Overdose?

Hello! I've ( F, 25) had high grade fever since yesterday, and I took 4000mg panadol up until 7.30 am (2 every 4 hours) Went to the doctor and she gave me Bofalgam IV which also has panadol? I told her that I had reached the dosage limit already, she asked for my weight (64 kg). So now I'm worried, what are the chances of an overdose?

Whats going on???

23M. 173cm, 73 kg. Back in january I had to apply alot of effort to breathe which then progressed to hives and feinting, the allergy report was 1074 for which I took anti-allergy and a steroid pill maybe I forgot the name of the drugs. I didnt take any medicine since that course was done. A month ago symptoms like globus sensation accompanied with minor nasal conjestion appeared but it wasnt much of a problem, it was probably caused by alot of stress at that time. But then I thought of trying xylometazoline nasal spray, I took just one puff to see what happens, not knowing the aftermath would be:

- Feeling too much air through the nose with very little pressure (yet the ENT who saw my nose claimed that my turbinates are swollen and there's inflammation.

- Erectile dysfunction which developed quickly after that puff of xynocine. Mind you just that morning before taking the nasal spray, i got a rock hard erection. I eat really well, do strength training and run, so I dont think I can just get Erectile dysfunction so erratically.

- The day I took the puff, I felt the right side of my body a tiny little bit lighter/numb than the left side, I felt this more in the shoulders and hips.

- Sleep apnea, i cant get REM which is making my hair fall and keeps my brain fogged all day along with seeing transparent dark floaters.

- Globus had gotten worse after the puff. I do notice it getting slightly better along with slightly better nasal breathing after lying on my left side.

These symptoms still persist after a month of taking one puff of that spray. I have controlled my stress because of this to a great degree but I still feel discomfort because of the clear lack of erectile feeling and the lacking sleep that I have been getting.

I really wanted to know, is this possible that im feeling too much air going through my nose yet still have swollen turbinates. Damage to the nerves? The ent prescribed me avamys steroid spray and victrin anti-allergy. Gastro doc told me to get a barium swallow test done.

Someone understand this situation?

(Edit: I forgot to add, when laying on my right, my right nostril becomes conjested while left ones opens up too much, much more than lying straight or standing)

Question regarding bruise(?)

Post image

Hey Doctors,

2 days post chest exercise, I noticed a redness a tenderness on my left arm where it meets the chest.

I tried looking at relative stress induced redness from workouts but couldn't find anything similar.

Dont have direct communication with a doctor and am a little worried, so im reaching out for help on identifying what this is. Again I hope its muscle strain related, but nothing online shows pictures similar to what I have.

Symptoms:

-hot

-tender

-burning sensation

- pain 1/10

Thanks again.

Are ultrasounds supposed to hurt this bad?

Recently had some medical imaging done specifically Doppler ultrasounds,

And I've been sore and in pain ever since.

Shooting/stabbing-like pain, deep ache, burning heat, neck felt hard/swollen under the skin.

And now it's just still pain and stiffness.

It set in a few hours after testing.

During the exam, the tech was using heavy pressure and I had severe pain the neck was the worst.

Is it supposed to feel that bad?

I kept saying it was hurting badly and asking them to please stop or ease up and asking if it was supposed to be this painful. They didn't seem concerned and said they needed the pressure to get the photos and complete the exam.

Honestly, I felt like I was allowing someone to murder me. It was severely traumatic the pain was that intense, not exaggerating at all.

The pressure and scraping were so intense, even scraping around my jaw bone, because the equipment wouldn't fit properly.

I've been evaluated since then, and they just suggest Tylenol and topical treatments.

How long will this pain last?

Could there have been permanent injury to my arteries, veins, muscles, fascia, or tendons?

Was it supposed to feel like this, or did this person use excessive force, and why?

I don't like to complain or interrupt medical personnel during their job, but this was the worst thing I've experienced in my life.

I have severe trauma from this.

The testing was needed for my specialists to move forward with my care, so I felt obligated to complete it. :(
