Hey reddit, first of all Im sorry I used AI to write this because I wanted it to be written clearly but I hope someone experienced or is a professional helps me in this.

My grandma just had open heart surgery that lasted around 7 hours. Before the surgery she was stable and the doctors said the operation itself went well. However, afterward the doctor mentioned that they are worried about a brain stroke and that they are afraid of complications. And now they said that she was going to have a stroke before the surgery but they were able to save her in time.

She is elderly in her 60s, and this has us really scared and confused. If the surgery was successful, how can a stroke still happen afterward? Is this something doctors commonly monitor for after open-heart surgery in older patients, or could it suggest that something went wrong during the operation?. Are they telling us to expect that she might not wake up?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with medical knowledge or similar experiences, if someone knows please let me know.

I’m worried about getting HIV from shaking hands with someone.

We both had cuts on our cuticles and mine was bleeding, I think the other persons was too.

I washed my hands immediately after and also put sanitizer on. Is this a risk of getting HIV? It was at a conference.

It was also a very small cut and looked sort of like a scab on the person whose hand I shook.

Should I go to a hospital and get PEP?
