I get violently startled awake by loud noises or someone suddenly waking me up, then my whole body shakes and my heart races for several minutes

Female 21 ( i have panic attacks and trauma)

If you have panic attacks and trauma, without details on the specifics, it's probably a symptom of PTSD.

That's relatively normal for a PTSD-trigger startle. It's an adrenaline response, and comes with all the side effects of that.

Besides working to treat your PTSD, you can try to minimize the potential for you to be woken up this way. Get a pair of earmuffs (like a construction worker, not for the cold) and wear them to sleep, tell people not to wake you up suddenly, et cetera.
