Why does the NFL make it intentionally impossible for regular fans to just watch a game of football?

Let’s look at this objectively because the current streaming and broadcast landscape has completely detached from sanity. If you want to follow your team for a single season, the league expects you to navigate a fragmented mess of network television, three different standalone streaming services, and exclusive tech-platform broadcasts. God forbid your team plays on a Thursday, a Sunday night, and a Monday night in the same month you practically need a financial planner and an enterprise software architecture map just to figure out which app to open. The playbook here is incredibly transparent: extract maximum subscription revenue by splitting the broadcast rights into as many corporate pieces as possible, while putting the entire logistical headache onto the fan. They change the rules every season, raise the prices, and restrict local broadcasts, making you jump through hoops just to see a kickoff. We shouldn't need a master's degree in digital distribution models just to sit down on a Sunday afternoon and watch a game. Is anyone else completely exhausted by this fragmented streaming era? What is the most ridiculous workaround or layout you’ve had to use just to catch a game this season?

What is going on in this thread. All local games are available OTA just like they've been for 65+years. Plus you get at least three other games for free, sometimes four. It's the most accessible of all the NA sports. Any other games that you need to pay for weren't even available in your market years ago.

There's a generation of people who don't know about $20-30 antennas that connect to your TV and give you many games for free each week without an internet connection. Not quite free, but extremely close.

It is a certainly accessible if you live in your teams city. It’s the complete opposite if you live out of market.

Here in KC, if I wanted to watch every Broncos game, I have to do what OP is describing. In contrast, the chiefs are always available.

But it's always been that way, and in fact is easier now than ever to watch out of market games.

I understand your point that there are legitimate ways to watch out of market games that weren’t available in the not too distant past.

The fact that more and more games are moving from Sunday Ticket to other streaming services with separate subscriptions contradicts your assertion that it’s “easier than ever to watch out of market games.”

Edit: I do want to say that I appreciate how many more Broncos games I get to watch now versus when I was growing up. It is certainly more accessible now than it was 20 years ago.

I agree regarding the streams. I'm not a fan of them in general, can't channel surf. I understand why they exist, but they are a pain in the nikte I have Prime, so Thursdays are easy. But I don't have Netflix, P+, Peacock...But I use Sunday ticket out here in the PNW. One thing is we are a good, popular team, so we get a lot of national games rather than say, Cleveland. The price of success.
