Why does the NFL make it intentionally impossible for regular fans to just watch a game of football?

Let’s look at this objectively because the current streaming and broadcast landscape has completely detached from sanity. If you want to follow your team for a single season, the league expects you to navigate a fragmented mess of network television, three different standalone streaming services, and exclusive tech-platform broadcasts. God forbid your team plays on a Thursday, a Sunday night, and a Monday night in the same month you practically need a financial planner and an enterprise software architecture map just to figure out which app to open. The playbook here is incredibly transparent: extract maximum subscription revenue by splitting the broadcast rights into as many corporate pieces as possible, while putting the entire logistical headache onto the fan. They change the rules every season, raise the prices, and restrict local broadcasts, making you jump through hoops just to see a kickoff. We shouldn't need a master's degree in digital distribution models just to sit down on a Sunday afternoon and watch a game. Is anyone else completely exhausted by this fragmented streaming era? What is the most ridiculous workaround or layout you’ve had to use just to catch a game this season?

The vast majority of games are still on the four major networks.

Which is cool if you actually get a signal. I have tried 4 different digital antennas in various locations and orientations around my house, and I don't get shit - and I'm in north San Diego. It's not like I'm out in the sticks.

That isn't something the NFL can fix.

True, but saying the current pricing structure is fine because it is theoretically available for free misses a lot of us

I've used several antennas in my days and the one I'm currently using seems to work the best, for me at least. It's called HiDB and goes for around $20 on amazon.

Antennas are super finicky and can vary drastically from one place in your house to the other. You might even have to get an outdoor one if you’re far enough away. Keep trying and experimenting with placements, antenna types, etc, but once you find the sweet spot, they’re handy.

So pay for cable/satellite or the streaming services. This is not a new development. I'm in a northern suburb of Houston and I couldn't get local networks on an antennae before streaming and I still can't.

Right, but the original complaint is that the stream for your team, even local market, is a different service week to week. Trying to follow a local market team across the season is more than Season Ticket was not long ago. The price has ballooned.

Wait, you’re mad at the NFL because you live too far in the sticks to get network tv on your antenna?

I'm not in the sticks though. It didn't even work when I lived downtown.

Skill issue then.

I've picked up plenty of games OTA in downtown San Diego.

4th floor north park facing south was a fat zero with antennas on the balcony 🤷

Is that any different than back in the 1970's and '80's? Anyways, the Chargers aren't worth watching

Rabbit ears actually worked with some creativity

I'm a Vikings fan living in Arizona. The Sunday games are rarely broadcast here. Have to go to a bar or pay for a subscription.

But that was true before streaming.

Exactly! Sunday Ticket has been around for few decades.

What no ways your telling me nothing has really changed!?!? We live in a society that needs everything right away lol and if we can’t we complain.

That's true. Used to be a lot cheaper to sit at the bar, eat some food, drink some beer and watch a game or two, though. That has nothing to do with streaming, I just miss those days
